K-pop group BTS has released a new remix of their song "Butter," a track co-written by the band's leader RM and featured in their Butter CD single, which was released on July 9.

The latest "Butter" remix, unveiled on August 27 at 12 a.m. ET, features American rapper Megan Thee Stallion, who added a new verse to the track.

"Butter," whose lyrics have a summer theme and pay homage to the late 1990s, has previously seen other remixes including a rock-inspired "Cooler" version and a "Sweeter" take with more of an R&B vibe.

Earlier this week Big Hit Music, the management company of BTS, shared a teaser of the remix on its official YouTube channel on August 25 in a video featuring the band and the rapper.

On August 25, Big Hit Music also shared a teaser of the song's "official visualizer" video, featuring colourful animated graphics, which was released on August 27 on its official YouTube channel of Hybe Labels, the parent company of Big Hit Music.

"Butter," which was first released in May, is the second English language track after "Dynamite," for which the group was nominated for their first Grammy Award earlier this year, marking the first-ever Grammy nomination for a K-pop act.

Several BTS fans praised the latest remix in posts on Twitter.

In a reply to a tweet from Big Hit Music sharing the new track's release details, user @jimnsbaby tweeted a video clip of one of the band members doing a Michael Jackson-inspired hip thrust move, with the words: "REMIX OF THE YEAR" alongside the post.

The video has had over 101,000 views since the post was shared at the time of reporting.

User @BTS21_2019 shared a 7-second clip from the official visualizer video (which was first posted by user @780613), highlighting a portion of the rapper's verse that begins with "Got that right body and the right mind."

What Do the 'Butter' Remix Lyrics Mean?

Described by Big Hit Music as a "shimmering summer song," the lyrics to "Butter" paid homage to the late 1990s, according to Jenna Andrews, one of the track's co-writers.

"We thought it would be cool to bring up late '90s references: Usher, rock with me, I look in the mirror, like "Man in the Mirror" by Michael Jackson—lyrics that paid homage to that time period," Andrews told Variety in June.

Ron Perry, another co-writer and co-producer of the track, told Variety in June: "When Jenna played me the hook, I had a vision for this song that was Michael Jackson 'Smooth Criminal' meets Daft Punk."

A portion of the first verse of "Butter" reads:

"Smooth like butter

"Like a criminal undercover

"Gon'[going to] pop like trouble

"Breakin' into your heart like that (Ooh)

"Cool shade stunner

"Yeah, I owe it all to my mother

"Hot like summer..."

At a press conference in Seoul back in late May when the track was released, BTS member Jimin explained: "If you hear the title 'Butter,' you know immediately that we tried to prepare a song that's easy listening, instead of [something with] a really heavy or profound message," according to Variety.

"This is a little embarrassing, but it's something smooth like butter, that really melts into and grabs hold of you. It's a very cute song, sort of a confession," Jimin said at the time.

Asked what message the band hoped to send listeners with the song, BTS member Jungkook said in late May: "'Butter' is very simple. It's getting warmer and will get hotter, and we hope that you can spend a fun summer with BTS."

The new second verse by Megan Thee Stallion in the latest remix continues the original track's summer theme and reference to retro artists such as Stevie Wonder.

A portion of the rapper's verse reads:

"Smooth like cocoa butter

"My drip more than a puddle

"They know that I'm the wave

"Take over every summer

"They must be giving Stevie if they ever had to Wonder

"'Cause every beat I get on get turned in to Hubba Bubba, ah..."
