As we enter fall, it's time to get excited for Halloween festivities.
One major event taking place will be the annual New Orleans Halloween parade, Krewe of Boo. Packed full of spooky and exciting floats, it's one that is sure to entertain crowds.
This is everything you need to know about the event.
What Is the Krewe of Boo Parade?
The Krewe of Boo parade first began in 2007 as a fundraiser for Hurricane Katrina relief efforts.
It was launched by Blaine Kern Sr. of Kern Studios, which has been making floats for the city's Mardi Gras parade since 1932.
The Krewe of Boo parade returned in 2013 with Kern's son Brian at the helm and has been held annually ever since.
It has now grown into a whole weekend of events with the parade consisting of 450 riders, 15 floats, and 35 marching bands and dance troupes.
Riders on the floats throw items like candy, chee wees, pralinettes, light-up medallion beads, voodoo doll pins and magnets, doubloons, and children's toys to spectators as the floats roll by.
When Is the Krewe of Boo Parade?
With Halloween this year falling on Sunday, October 31, the parade will take place on the previous Saturday, October 23.
It all takes place in the city's French Quarter and begins at 6:30 p.m.
Entrance to watch the parade is free.
What Is the Parade's Route?
The parade will begin in Elysian Fields Avenue, heading towards North Peters Street.
From there, it will make its way to Decatur Street before passing Jackson Square on its way back to North Peters Street.
Then it will travel to Canal Street towards Burgundy Street where the parade then makes a U-turn.
Going back down Canal Street to Tchoupitoulas Street, it'll head from there to Andrew Higgins Drive where the parade ends.
