Lady Gaga's two dogs, forcibly stolen from her dog walker earlier this week, have been returned by a woman who was "uninvolved and unassociated" with their abduction.

The woman dropped the pop singer's dogs off at Los Angeles Police Department's (LAPD) Olympic Community Police Station at 6 p.m. local time on Friday evening, according to Captain Jonathan Tippett, commanding officer of the LAPD's elite Robbery-Homicide Division.

Lady Gaga's representative and detectives visited the dogs at the station and have confirmed their identities. It's unclear how the woman who returned the dogs obtained them.

The dogs were abducted on Wednesday night when a white sedan pulled up near Lady Gaga's dog walker, Ryan Fischer, while he was walking her three dogs: Gustav, Koji and Miss Asia. Two men exited the vehicle, and one shot Fischer in the chest. The men then took two of the dogs, Gustav and Koji, and fled.

Fischer was reportedly breathing but in "grave condition" when authorities arrived. He was transported to the hospital and is expected to survive. The third dog, Miss Asia, was later recovered by police.

Gaga is currently in Italy filming a movie, but she issued a statement about her dogs' abduction via Instagram on Friday morning.

"My heart is sick and I am praying my family will be whole again with an act of kindness," she wrote. "I continue to love you Ryan Fischer, you risked your life to fight for our family. You're forever a hero."

Lady Gaga offered a $500,000 reward for her dogs' return, adding that no questions would be asked of whoever returned them. It's unclear if the woman who returned the dogs will receive the cash reward.

Police described the two suspected thieves as Black men between the ages of 20 and 25. One had blond dreadlocks and used a semiautomatic handgun to attack Fisher.

French bulldogs are among the most popular dog breeds to steal, partly because of their popularity, according to the American Kennel Club. The dogs don't bark as often as other dogs and can be resold for thousands of dollars, Tara Bruno, founder of the French bulldog rehoming organization SNORT, told People magazine.

"Thieves also steal easily to carry dogs, which is why there are a lot of toy breeds on the list (of most stolen dog breeds)," Brandi Hunter vice president of American Kennel Club told Reader's Digest.

Newsweek contacted Lady Gaga's representatives for comment.
