Laura Ingraham said the future for U.S. conservatives may not be another Donald Trump presidency.
In an interview on the podcast The Truth with Lisa Boothe, the Fox News anchor expressed her doubt that GOP supporters were ready to back Trump again as he weighed up another presidential run.
She spoke in favor of Trump's policies and was critical of the FBI raid on his Mar-a-Lago property, but said that the country is "exhausted by the battle" that backing his politics entailed and so may people may turn to someone new.
"They may believe that, well, maybe it's time to turn the page if we can get someone who has all Trump's policies, who's not Trump," she said.
Ingraham also said the FBI raid "unifies the party," but also "has the danger of stoking Democrat turnout."
Last week, she attacked the Justice Department and FBI following the search warrant executed at Trump's Florida home linked to a probe into classified documents reportedly taken from the White House. She had said on her show, The Ingraham Angle, that "when we get power back, it's time to hold everyone accountable."
On Monday's podcast, she told Boothe, that although Trump has been "a friend of mine for 25 years," she said, "we'll see whether that's what the country wants."
"The other problem is that it's really not about Trump," but rather "the views that Trump now brought to the floor for the Republican Party."
She referred to Trump's criticism of the military, his trade policy with China and his hardline views on immigration.
The Fox News host said American customs and values are under attack by liberals and that those on the left believe "the American way of life is immoral."
"It really doesn't matter in the end, whether it's Trump making a populist conservative point or whether it's DeSantis or someone like him, they're going to come full bore against any Republican, even an establishment one," she added, referring to the Florida governor, Ron DeSantis, although she stopped short of voicing her support for him.
"Trump is a placeholder right now for the ire and fury of the left but anyone who steps into that breach is going to find the same pain being thrust at him or her."
While Ingraham has continuously backed Trump's policies, she hasn't said she would support his presidential candidacy in 2024.
