Representative Lauren Boebert, a Colorado Republican, is the subject of a police investigation after a confrontation with her ex-husband, according to local law enforcement.
Boebert has represented Colorado's 3rd Congressional District since 2021 and has been among the most outspoken supporters of former President Donald Trump since then, voting against the certification of the 2020 election and supporting efforts to impeach President Joe Biden. Facing dwindling reelection prospects in her current district, she recently announced her intention to seek office in the state's 4th Congressional District for the next election cycle.
On Sunday, The Daily Beast reported that the Silt Police Department had opened an investigation with Boebert at the center. The congresswoman allegedly got into a physical altercation with her ex-husband, Jayson Boebert, at the Miner's Claim restaurant in Silt, Colorado, with the latter claiming that his ex-wife punched him in public. The police department confirmed to the outlet on Saturday night that an "active investigation" was underway, but did not comment further. Police Chief Mike Kite also confirmed the investigation in a comment to The Independent, a British online newspaper.
Newsweek has reached out to the Silt Police Department via email for comment.
In a statement provided to Newsweek by her office, the congresswoman confirmed a confrontation with her ex-husband, calling it a "sad situation," but denied hitting him.
"This is a sad situation for all that keeps escalating and another reason I'm moving," she said. "I didn't punch Jayson in the face and no one was arrested. I will be consulting with my lawyer about the false claims he made against me and evaluate all of my legal options."

According to The Daily Beast, Jayson Boebert called police to the restaurant claiming to have been a "victim of domestic violence." Lauren Boebert's office, however, denied any such allegations to the outlet.
The allegations against the congresswoman first circulated from the American Muckrakers watchdog account on X, the platform previously known as Twitter, which cited an unverified message received from someone who claimed to have a police relative from the Silt area. Jayson Boebert has claimed to have another witness to the altercation.
"Breaking and sad news out of Silt, CO," the account wrote in a post. "[Lauren Boebert] punched her ex-husband Jayson in the nose 2 times and then continued to beat him up. Then she called the cops on him. As much as I despise her, it's just sad for the boys. Jayson has a witness. More to come."
According to The Daily Beast, Jayson Boebert had chosen the restaurant to meet his ex-wife at to apologize for a confrontation the pair had earlier in the day when the congresswoman went to his home to pick up one of their sons. At the restaurant, Jayson Boebert allegedly became increasingly "aggressive" and "lewd" toward the congresswoman, at one point making a motion as if to grab her. Lauren Boebert then allegedly tried to keep him at bay and put her hand in his face.
No arrests were made in the alleged incident. The congresswoman was reportedly willing to cooperate and speak with police at the scene, and was later driven home by a friend.
