Lauren Boebert Goes on Posting Rampage During Joe Biden's SOTU

GOP Representative Lauren Boebert went on a posting rampage on social media Thursday night in reaction to Joe Biden's State of the Union address, a contrast from two years ago when she made headlines for heckling the president during the speech.

On Thursday night, Biden delivered a fiery State of the Union in which he touted his accomplishments, including passage of economic legislation, ahead of the presidential election. He did not shy away from calling out Republicans on a range of issues, such as immigration, taxes and reproductive rights, drawing praise from his supporters but criticism from many conservatives.

Among them was Boebert, a Colorado Republican, who took to X (formerly Twitter) to attack the president during the speech. Still, her approach was notably more subdued this year. She loudly heckled Biden during his 2022 State of the Union but took a softer approach in 2023 after her behavior was criticized.

Ahead of Biden's address, House Speaker Mike Johnson urged House Republicans to show "decorum" during the address. Boebert initially signaled she would not "promise" to abide by his request.

"I don't even promise my pastor I'm going to hold back in church," she told CNN.

Posting on X, Boebert challenged many of Biden's remarks on inflation, the economy and immigration.

"The economy is in shambles. Anyone who actually lives in reality knows that. #SOTU," Boebert wrote in one post.

In another, she said, "This is not the State of the Ukraine. It's the State of the Union. Is he seriously kicking it off with Ukraine?"

Boebert also said she sees a "future where President Trump will be giving this speech next year."

Newsweek reached out to Boebert's office for further comment via email.

While Boebert did not heckle Biden this time, other Republicans did so. At one point, Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia shouted at Biden, demanding that he say the name of Laken Riley, a Georgia college student killed last month. An immigrant from Venezuela who entered the U.S. illegally has been arrested and charged with her murder.

In response to Greene, Biden acknowledged Riley's death by saying her name.

Boebert also wrote several posts criticizing Biden's record on immigration, a key issue in the upcoming election, which is expected to pit the president against Donald Trump again.

"Joe, no one with a brain likes your amnesty bill that would immediately give work permits to all illegal aliens that you release into America," Boebert wrote.

During Biden's 2022 address, Boebert shouted, "You put them in. Thirteen of them" while he spoke about U.S. troops deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan who suffered severe medical conditions after breathing toxic smoke from burn pits.

Her comments were an apparent reference to the 13 U.S. service members killed in an attack in Kabul as U.S. troops were withdrawing from Afghanistan in August 2021.
