Lauren Boebert Says Message From God Spurred 2024 District Move

Representative Lauren Boebert claimed on Sunday that a conversation with God was partially behind her decision to move districts in this year's election cycle.

Boebert has represented Colorado's 3rd Congressional District since 2021, distinguishing herself as among the most vocal supporters of former President Donald Trump in Congress. In 2022 during the midterm elections, she came within a hundred votes of losing reelection in a surprise near-upset from Democrat Adam Frisch. Heading into the 2024 election cycle, polls indicated that Frisch, running again, had a strong chance of unseating her the second time around.

Citing the influx of donations for Frisch's campaign from out-of-state, Boebert in December announced her intention to move her residence and seek election in Colorado's 4th district instead. The move has, however, still been fraught with difficulties for the congresswoman, with voters in the new district regularly expressing their distaste for her and her efforts to find success there. An informal straw poll from a GOP debate in the district also saw her place fifth out of nine candidates for the nomination.

On Sunday, The Washington Post published a piece about Boebert's ongoing campaign in the 4th district and the troubles she has encountered. At one point in the piece, Boebert claims that she expected such difficulties, but was supposedly encouraged to stick with the plan by a message from God.

"I'm not dumb," the congresswoman said. "I knew all the attacks that would come my way. But I talked to God, I asked 'How do I address this? Will this be perceived that I'm not fighting?' And God said, 'Do you have more faith in your ability to fight or my ability to open a door?'"

Newsweek reached out to Boebert's campaign via email on Sunday afternoon. Any responses received will be added to this story in a later update.

Among voters in the 4th district, Boebert's recent public scandals, most notably an incident in which she was removed from a Denver theater for allegedly inappropriate behavior, have also been cited by voters who said they did not want to support her.

The congresswoman has also been dogged by a number of incidents within her own family, including a confrontation at a restaurant with her ex-husband that led to police being called, and her 18-year-old son being arrested on four felony counts of criminal possession of ID documents, and one felony count of conspiracy to commit a felony, as well as over 15 misdemeanor and petty offenses.

Her reelection bid did receive a notable boost on Saturday, however, when Trump officially endorsed her in the race.

"Congresswoman Lauren Boebert is a Proven Conservative and Effective Leader who delivers for Colorado, and our America First agenda," Trump wrote in a Truth Social post. "She has led the fight to Impeach Joe Biden, Stop Illegal Immigration, Defend the Second Amendment, Protect our Wonderful Ranchers and Farmers, Support our Military and Veterans, Secure our Natural Resources to Pursue Energy Dominance, and Stand Up to the Radical Democrats who want to Destroy our Beautiful Country. Congresswoman Lauren Boebert is a trusted America First Fighter, and has my Complete and Total Endorsement for Colorado's 4th Congressional District!"
