Representative Lauren Boebert (R-CO) has said Joe Biden's student debt relief plan is robbing Americans and using their money to fund "Karen's daughter's degree in lesbian dance theory."

Boebert's comments were made in part of a response to Biden's remarks at the Democratic National Committee fundraiser in Maryland on Thursday.

The President hit out at Donald Trump's America First agenda and condemned the ideology as "semi-fascism."

During his pointed speech at Rockville, Biden said: "What we're seeing now is the beginning or the death knell of an extreme MAGA philosophy.

"It's not just Trump, it's the entire philosophy that underpins it - I'm going to say something - It's like semi-fascism."

Boebert hit back at Biden's comments during an appearance on Fox News' Hannity earlier this week.

In the clip, Boebert said: "How the heck could Joe Biden call America First conservatives a threat to democracy with a straight face and a dry diaper?

"He's the one who has allowed millions to invade our southern border. He's the one who is robbing hardworking Americans to pay for Karen's daughter's degree in lesbian dance theory."

Since being uploaded by Twitter account Patriot Takes on Saturday, August 27, the clip has been viewed more than 1 million times.

While lesbian dance theory is not a real major, it has been used as an umbrella term for degrees that are perceived to give little, if any, value to the student when they enter the workforce.

Boebert's remarks are reflective of how other Republican politicians have responded to Biden's student debt forgiveness plan.

Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND) told Fox Business's Maria Bartiromo on Tuesday: "If you look at the statistics of freshmen who don't finish college but they take out student debt in order to experiment with college—if you start forgiving that first $10,000 for people, that just enhances these reckless decisions.

"We oughta have people making more thoughtful decisions and applying good economic principles, as well as their personal circumstances. Then you have fairness and a much more economically literate electorate."

According to the White House, the debt relief plan is targeted and will not benefit any "high-income individual or high-income household" and ruled out people in the top 5 percent of earners from getting access to it.

Instead, the Department of Education (DoE) will offer $20,000 in debt cancellation to Pell Grant recipients with loans held by the DoE.

It added there would be up to $10,000 in debt cancellation to non-Pell Grant recipients. Borrowers are eligible for this relief if their individual income is less than $125,000 ($250,000 for married couples).

The pause on federal student loan repayment will be extended until December 31, 2022. Those who have borrowed should expect to resume payment in January 2023.

The White House added: "According to a Department of Education analysis, the typical undergraduate student with loans now graduates with nearly $25,000 in debt."

Newsweek has contacted Boebert and the White House for comment.
