Lucifer Season 5 on Netflix gives Tom Ellis another role to play (and the chance to do an American accent) as he brings to life both Lucifer Morningstar but his twin brother, Michael. It also gives him another chance to strip off after last season's nudist scene as Michael practices pretending to be his brother.
Unlike perhaps any other impressionist before him, however, Michael gets into the role by rehearsing naked in front of a mirror in the opening minutes of Season 5, Episode 2, titled "Lucifer! Lucifer! Lucifer!".
Many fans took to Twitter to call out this moment of gratuitous nudity and point out what a bizarre thing this was for Michael to do.
For example, one Lucifer fan tweeted: "WHY IS HE PRACTICING BEING LUCIFER BUTT ASS NAKED," while another wrote, "why is he saying his brothers name in the mirror when naked wtf Michael."
Other Lucifans, meanwhile, were a little more pleased by the scene. One wrote: "There should always be more naked Lucifer. Already living for this season." Another tweeted in the lead-up to the new season's release: "I'm f****** ready OMG. We better see lots of angel #lucifer naked!"

This nude scene, plus the one featuring Ella (played by Amy Garcia) and Lucifer in a nudist colony in Season 4, came after the show moved from Fox to Netflix. Once the show left network television, it had more of a scope to feature nudity on the show.
This is something that Tom Ellis has previously discussed in interviews. Speaking with Vulture in May 2019, the actor said: "Those are the constraints in network-television standards and practices but weren't an issue on Netflix."
The actor added: "There's a reason the show has a broad appeal, and it's because it doesn't go too far. We have to be suggestive rather than vulgar...We push it an extra 10 percent [on Netflix] and bring that sinister edge back to the show."
Previously in the interview, he said, "that's all my own nudity this year!...I had a moment of pride with how I felt and how I looked. I wasn't against the idea of nudity."
Around the same time, he told CinemaBlend about the Season 4 nudist colony scene: "The entire sequence would never have happened on Fox! I don't think they would have been able to show the walk away of myself and Aimee as we entered the colony."
These scenes in Season 4, Episode 6, titled "Orgy Pants to Work," were very popular among fans. At the time, for example, a Lucifan tweeted: "'I'm convinced that Netflix saved Lucifer just so they could have shots of tom ellis basically naked. bless you Netflix...bless you."
This came after Ellis teased to the New York Post: "We can swear if we want to, we can show more flesh. That was one of those things we'll do with the cheeky wink and a glint in the eye that we always do."
Lucifer Season 5 is streaming now on Netflix.
