Republican North Carolina Representative Madison Cawthorn met with Republican leadership on Wednesday to discuss his recent allegations regarding drug use and orgies by unnamed lawmakers.

The freshman representative met with House Leader Kevin McCarthy and House Minority Whip Steve Scalise Wednesday morning, according to a tweet from Politico's Olivia Beavers.

The meeting, which lasted approximately 30 minutes, comes after Cawthorn's statements earlier this week where he alleged that he had been invited to orgies by politicians in Washington. He also mentioned that some of those unnamed politicians had used cocaine.

Beavers said that as Cawthorn left McCarthy's office, he did not respond to her questions about the meeting.

Also, in his remarks, earlier this week, the North Carolina representative said that those who did allegedly invite him to a "sexual get-together" were colleagues in their 60s and 70s. However, Cawthorn did not name anyone who was involved.

Cawthorn's remarks reportedly "upset" many of his Republican colleagues in Congress, several expressed their concern to McCarthy who promised to hold a meeting to talk to him about his remarks.

Both of North Carolina's Republican senators have commented on Cawthorn's remarks in recent days.

According to CNN's Manu Raju, Senator Thom Tillis said that if Cawthorn's accusations are true, "he's got a lot of information to reveal." He also said that "if it's not true, then he's guilty of being untruthful. Tillis also added that "I thought it was a silly statement and it's not the first one."

When Raju asked Senator Richard Burr about Cawthorn's job performance, the senator, who will be retiring at the end of his current term said: "That's for his constituents to figure out but he's clearly been an embarrassment at times."

Politicians in Washington are not the only people to comment on Cawthorn recently. Meghan McCain recently posted on social media that the American people have a right to know which members of Congress he is talking about.

"The American public deserves to know which members of Congress are doing cocaine and having orgies because they are unfit for office. Should we all just start guessing the people he's talking about?" she tweeted.

Cawthorn's remarks came during an appearance on the Warrior Poet Society podcast, where he claimed that the Washington D.C. portrayed in the popular Netflix drama House of Cards was somewhat accurate.

Cawthorn's accusations of drug use and orgies in our nation's capital come after a video recently surfaced of the North Carolina representative referring to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as a "thug."

In the video, as he spoke to supporters he also called the Ukrainian government "incredibly corrupt" and "incredibly evil" and accused it of "pushing woke ideologies."

Newsweek reached out to the offices of Cawthorn, McCarthy and Scalise for comment but did not hear back before publication.
