Make America Great Again (MAGA) supporters and allies of former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani are celebrating on social media after Hunter Biden moved to drop his lawsuit alleging that Giuliani manipulated data on his laptop.

Biden's laptop has been embroiled in controversy since 2020 with allegations of tampering, election interference and foreign business dealings, mainly falling along party lines. In October 2020, Giuliani gave The New York Post emails from the laptop, which it published less than a month before the presidential election. This month, the laptop appeared as evidence in Biden's criminal court case, with messages and data used in his conviction.

Hunter Biden, President Joe Biden's only living son, is the first child of a U.S. sitting president to be criminally convicted. On Tuesday, a Delaware jury found Hunter Biden guilty on three felony counts related to a 2018 gun purchase and possession of the gun while using narcotics. Prosecutors argued that he lied on federal documents about his drug use, which would have barred him from legally obtaining a firearm.

On Thursday, Hunter Biden's lawyer, Abbe Lowell, filed to dismiss a case against Giuliani and Robert Costello for allegedly invading his privacy and manipulating data on the laptop. Presiding Judge Jessica Clarke must approve the motion to dismiss before the case is officially dropped.

Newsweek reached out to Lowell for comment via email on Friday.

On Friday morning, Giuliani posted a New York Post article detailing the case against him being dropped on X, formerly Twitter. The post has received nearly 900 likes and dozens of supporting comments, urging him to countersue and have Hunter Biden pay his legal fees.

Ted Goodman, Giuliani's spokesperson, told Newsweek in an email Friday: "Mayor Rudy Giuliani has again proven himself to be telling the truth, while those going after him and President Donald Trump have been proven to be liars. All of the false charges that Hunter Biden made against Mayor Rudy Giuliani, his lawyer Bob Costello and others, have been withdrawn and proven to be entirely false.

"This should serve as a reminder to people that—despite the unrelenting attacks by partisan Democrats and their allies in the permanent Washington political class—Mayor Rudy Giuliani's integrity and commitment to the truth is unwavering."

Giuliani's attorney, Joe Sibley, said in a statement to The New York Post:"This dismissal – along with Hunter Biden's conviction based on evidence taken from the laptop – is a vindication for Mr. Giuliani and Mr. Costello as well as all of the media outlets who broke the laptop story in 2020 and suffered orchestrated censorship by social media, the leftist mainstream media, and others who engaged in election interference."

Newsweek reached out to Sibley for comment via his firm contact form on Friday andemailed Giuliani's spokesperson for comment.

Independent journalist Nick Sortor, who is typically critical of President Biden and supportive of former President Donald Trump, posted on X on Friday morning: "Hunter Biden has DROPPED his lawsuit against Rudy Giuliani over the Laptop From Hell. Good. It never should've been brought in the first place, as it was based on a LIE."

His post has received nearly 9,500 likes as of midday Friday. One user, Zaki Solja, replied: "Rudy Giuliani should sue Hunter and his father," which received nearly 1,000 likes. Another user, Gunther Eagleman, who identifies as MAGA and a political commentator, wrote: "LOL! Hunter Biden is a f***ing clown."

User JKash MAGA Queen also replied to Sortor's post, writing: "Good, and yes the fact that Hunter had even brought the lawsuit at all just shows the lengths that family will go to for protecting their own selfish and dishonest interests."

Sortor's post was reposted by more than 2,600 people, including Tennessee Representative Tim Burchett, who captioned it, "Yuge," a term closely associated with Trump.

Update 6/14/24, 1:45 p.m. ET: This article has been updated to include comment from Ted Goodman.

Update 6/15/24, 6:05 a.m. ET: The headline was changed.
