A man arrested in Gurugram, India, confessed to killing his live-in partner earlier this week as well as her husband in 2018 during interrogation, local police have said.

Surender was arrested two days after the body of 42-year-old Kamla was found dead at her home on Wednesday, according to a report by The Indian Express.

A police complaint lodged by Kamla's son alleged that her live-in partner, Surender, was responsible for her death.

Officers from the Sushant Lok police station arrested Surender near the Gold Souk Mall and took him in for questioning on Friday.

Police have said that he confessed to killing her after an argument and choked her to death. The autopsy of Kamla confirmed that she had been strangled to death.

"The accused had not been working and used to drink a lot," said Deputy Commissioner of Police Virender Vij said, according to The Indian Express report. "The couple had several fights over the issue. He said that after a fight on March 1, he killed her and ran away."

Police also said that Surender confessed to murdering Kamla's husband in 2018. They added that Surender and Kamla had been in a relationship since 2014.

"The accused said that in June 2018, Kamla's husband, Mahesh, became aware of their affair," Vij said.

"So, Surender hatched a plot to murder him. After drinking with Mahesh, he killed him and threw his body in a canal near his village."

Authorities also said that Kamla filed a missing report of her husband at the Jaffarpur police station in Delhi on June 23, 2018. Police did not clarify whether she was aware that Surender was allegedly involved in the death of her first husband.

Newsweek has contacted the Sushant Lok police station for comment.

Back in January, in another incident that occurred in India, a woman killed her husband before cutting off his head and taking it to a local police station, according to law enforcement officials.

The alleged incident took place between the accused Vasundhara and her husband Ravi Chandran in the city of Renigunta. Vasundhara attacked her husband following an argument they had at their home, according to police.

Vasundhara reportedly took the severed head to a police station in Andhra Pradesh's Chittoor. Police said they took the suspect with them to her home in hopes of gathering clues.

The body of her husband was discovered at the home and sent for an autopsy.

Police said their preliminary investigation discovered that Chandran and Vasundhara would regularly fight and, after another argument, Vasundhara stabbed her husband.
