There have been numerous occasions where people have been shot dead while celebrating with others.
Earlier this month, a father was shot dead at an engagement party that he attended with his wife and children in a Los Angeles suburb.
Edgar Rodriguez, 29, was one of hundreds of guests at a party held at a large banquet hall in Northridge.
The Los Angeles Police Department said an altercation started inside the venue, but moved outside, where the victim was shot.
Rodriguez, who was identified by family members at the party, was reportedly shot multiple times in the upper body by a suspect who opened fire with a handgun. He died shortly afterward.
Police said the suspect is a man in his 40s who fled from the area and that he hasn't yet been caught.
Officers arrived at the venue at about 11:11 p.m. after they received reports that a man had been shot in the parking lot.
In the U.S., 321 people are shot every single day, according to statistics compiled by Brady, using data provided by Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project's HCUPnet.
