Man Claiming to Have HIV Flicks Blood on Pregnant Starbucks Worker: Police

An Arizona man allegedly flicked his own blood at a pregnant Starbucks employee while claiming he had HIV, according to court documents.

Fox 5 reported Juan Luis Loya-Leyva, 26, carried out a string of bizarre incidents involving his own blood in Goodyear on September 13.

According to investigators, Loya-Leyva had been walking through the parking lot of Abrazo West Valley Hospital when he walked up to a car and tried to enter it via the rear passenger door.

Fox 5 reported court documents read: "The victim closed the door from the interior. However, [Loya-Leyva] then shattered the rear hatch glass window by punching through it, breaching the threshold and entering the vehicle."

Investigators added Loya-Leyva then tried to charge at the person sitting inside the car, the network reported.

A portion of the court documents stated: "[Loya-Leyva] grabbed ahold of [the victim's] leg, and tried to pull her out of the vehicle."

Following the incident, investigators claim Loya-Leyva then ran around the area leaving blood behind him as he had injured his right arm.

According to Fox 5, officials say Loya-Leyva tried to enter other vehicles and then started to smear blood on the windows and door handles of a medical center as he passed by.

Court documents seen by the network said he was spotted in surveillance footage entering a nearby Starbucks and began to flick his blood at employees working inside, as well as on items and the counter in the store.

Fox 5 reported part of the document said: "[Loya-Leyva] then intentionally flicked blood into the face and on the bodies of two Starbucks employees. [Loya-Leyva] continued to claim he had HIV."

One of the employees working there was said to be 36 weeks pregnant. According to the documents, the Starbucks had to close as a result.

When Loya-Leyva was detained by police, he then allegedly rubbed blood on an officer and told them he had "HIV/or AIDS" and "wished for them to get it."

Investigators said Loya-Leyva was taken to a hospital where he allegedly threatened to kill staff and used a racist slur against a Black doctor.

The network reported that Loya-Leyva caused at least $25,000 in damages, adding he has been charged with aggravated assault, criminal damage, kidnapping, threat and disorderly conduct.

Loya-Leyva has also been given a $10,000 secured appearance bond and has been given a preliminary hearing date, which has been set for September 23.
