A video of a man pouring coffee off a balcony onto people below has gone viral online, with many people criticizing the controversial prank.
In the footage, which was posted to the app by user Chribandz, we can see a mask-wearing man leaning over the indoor balcony at a Target in Stamford, Connecticut, holding a takeaway coffee cup.
He then proceeds to pour his drink down onto two people that are walking along many floors below.
The clip, which was posted on September 10, was Chribandz's second-ever piece of content and has so far attracted more than 3 million views and 624,700 likes.
The young man captioned the video, writing: "f a lick #comedy #viral."
Nearly 10,000 people have taken to the comments section to share their views on the incident, which can be viewed here.
Some people were unimpressed with the man's actions, including TikTok user Zusixa who wrote: "This will ruin someone's day," alongside a string of crying-face emojis.
Another person, Natalie, added: "This ain't funny, maybe if it was water but not coffee."
TikTokIsMySock exclaimed: "Just not funny, she could've been having a s**t day and you did that, but it's ok since you want to be TikTok famous so it's ok."
Mila K typed: "Water dries and comes off... coffee stains are really hard to get out and you ruined that person's clothes."
Ria stated: "The only thing I personally have a problem with is what if that person had an allergic reaction to that? You literally never know bro like chill."
Just Fresher commented: "It would be ok if it was a warm temperature liquid but using coffee someone could actually get severe burns."
To this Chribandz responded: "It was cold old coffee I found there."
However, some TikTokers did seem to find the prank amusing, such as Ham who revealed: "I'd be mad if it was me but it's funny because it's not me."
Christian Watson agreed, typing: "Not going to lie this was the funniest."
A spokesperson for Target told Newsweek, "we take the safety of our guests and team members extremely seriously, and we're sorry this happened to one of our guests.
"We have no tolerance for this kind of behavior, and we're cooperating with local law enforcement on their investigation of the incident."
TikTok as a platform has been used to springboard many potentially dangerous trends, including the "blackout challenge," which was linked to the death of a 10-year-old girl in Italy in January.
The challenge encouraged users to hold their breath or restrict their airflow until they lost consciousness.
The "eye challenge" also came under fire in 2019 for encouraging people to put bleach near their eyes.
The app's latest transparency report, which covers the second half of 2020, revealed that it had removed 89,132,938 videos worldwide for violating its community guidelines or terms of service.
Newsweek has contacted Chribandz for comment.
