One man has been killed and another has been hospitalized with serious injuries following a shooting near a bar in Waco, Texas in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Police responded after receiving a call at 1:45 a.m. CT (2:45 a.m. ET) Saturday that reported shots were fired outside the Warehouse Bar on the city's Austin Avenue.

The death is being investigated as a murder and police have not yet made any arrests but they are seeking any information from the public that might help with their investigation.

The Waco Police Department shared details of the incident through their Facebook page early on Saturday morning, saying that "two males have been shot in the 700 block of Austin Ave. in Waco."

The department said they had received a "Shots Fired" call at around 1:45 a.m. after a fight had broken out at the bar.

"When officers arrived, they learned that the fight had started inside of the Warehouse Bar," the police department said.

"The fight spilled out into the street where at least one individual began firing a gun, resulting in at least two males being struck by bullets," police said.

"One of the two males was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. The second male was found to have suffered fatal injuries as a result of the shooting," police went on.

Waco Police said the man was "a 30-year-old male of Waco and is believed to have had no involvement in the initial fight."

They said that while the victim had been identified, they were not releasing his name at this time so that they could inform his family. Police also offered more information about what had happened on the scene, while also making an appeal to the public for help.

McLennan County Justice of the Peace Walter Peterson "assisted at the scene" and pronounced the man deceased.

"At this time, Waco PD Special Crimes Investigators are asking anyone with information about the shooting to contact the Waco Police Department immediately," the police said.

Waco police also noted that this is the fifth murder in the city so far this year. The department opened the first murder investigation of 2022 in January after a 30-year-old man, Curtis Freeman, was shot. He was hospitalized but later passed away.

Police arrested a suspect in that killing, 23-year-old Eddie Bohannon, on January 22 and charged him with murder.

Newsweek has asked the Waco Police Department for comment.
