A man in Floyd County, Georgia, has been charged with murder after police said he put his 82-year-old grandmother in plastic bags and placed her into a freezer while she was alive.

Robert Keith Tincher III, 29, allegedly put his grandmother in the freezer in December after she had fallen at an apartment the two lived in, Fox 5 Atlanta reported, citing an arrest warrant.

As he allegedly dragged his grandmother to the freezer, some of her bones broke.

"From what we determined, at the time, he believed she was still breathing and had some movement at the time she was going into the freezer," Floyd County Investigator Brittany Werner said, according to Fox 5.

Tincher allegedly moved the freezer to a storage unit, which wasn't discovered until four months later, according to the Rome News-Tribune, citing Fulton County jail reports. Police found the freezer on Thursday.

According to Fox 5, police said Tincher told them he didn't report his grandmother's fall because there was a warrant out for his arrest.

The Rome News-Tribune reported that Tincher had also been accused of conspiring to kill his then-wife in 2018. Following his arrest this week, he has been charged with felony malice murder, concealing the death of another, aggravated battery and felony murder, in addition with failing to appear in connection with his prior charges, according to the newspaper.

Newsweek has reached out to the Fulton County Police Department for comment.

In a separate incident in December, a man in California was accused of killing his grandmother on Christmas. When the Fresno County Sheriff's Office arrived on the scene, they learned that the family was opening presents when the suspect, 23-year-old Austin Alvarez, arrived.

"During the visit, Alvarez fired shots striking his grandmother (Magdalena Alvarez) and his father's girlfriend (Meisa Rashid)," the sheriff's office stated at the time. He then later attempted to shooting his father, but did not succeed, according to the sheriff's office.

Last June, a 69-year-old grandmother was killed in a Publix supermarket after she confronted a man who shot and killed her 1-year-old grandchild. The Palm Peach County Sheriff's office said that the suspect's gun became jammed following the "brave actions" of the grandmother.

Also in June, a Michigan man was convicted of murdering his step-grandmother. The man was accused of repeatedly beating her with a ceramic piggy bank and a metal child gate, before decapitating her and throwing her head in the yard.
