A man accused of pulling a weapon on men and women in line to get a COVID-19 test, and specifically targeting an older man, has been detained by law enforcement.
According to a report from SaltWire Network, Cape Breton Regional Police arrested 31-year-old Bryan Joseph Bonar for his alleged role in a public disturbance at the Centre 200 COVID-19 testing facility in Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada, on Wednesday.
Bonar allegedly yelled and threw things at patrons waiting to be tested for COVID-19, according to a report from CTV News. He subsequently pulled his weapon on a patron who tried to calm him down, then quickly fled the scene.
The outlet confirmed that no one was injured and that Bonar was arrested shortly after. Police in Cape Breton found an abandoned pocket-style knife consistent with witness statements.
Footage of the event was posted to Reddit on the r/PublicFreakout page. The person who posted the encounter, u/OGWhiz on the platform, wrote: "Guy pulled a knife on an old fella, got confronted by a big guy with no shirt on at a covid testing line."
In the 27-second clip, a shirtless man with a large tattoo on his back quickly approaches Bonar, seen holding two backpacks, demanding he "get the f**k out of here."
Bonar's retort is muffled, but the shirtless man is heard yelling, "Come on...motherf***er!"
"You want to pull a knife...put it down and let's go," he adds.
"Yeah?" Bonar answers. "Look at the size of you, bud."
The two walk away from each other, with the shirtless man yelling once again, "Get the f**k out of here."
U/OGWhiz claimed in the comments section that Bonar was terrorizing the people waiting for their tests and was "screaming" at them prior to the shirtless man's arrival.
"An older gentleman told him he needed to calm down and he replied with 'What? You wanna die today b***h?' [And he] pulled out a knife," the Redditor wrote.
Seeing the older man in distress, a concerned citizen stepped in.
"A man in a drive thru at Tim Hortons got out of his truck and took his shirt off and rushed the guy separating him from the old man, then chased him off," he explained.
CTV News also reported that at the time of his arrest, Bonar was in breach of his probation on separate charges.
In addition to breaking court orders, Bonar was charged with assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and causing a disturbance while intoxicated, SaltWire Network reported.
