A man has been branded a "misogynist" on social media after it emerged he introduced his wife to work colleagues as "the housewife."

According to analysis from the Pew Research Center, around 42 percent of women in the U.S. say they have faced discrimination in the workplace because of their gender.

But that gender discrimination isn't just restricted to the world of work. According to one married woman writing on Reddit, it's happening in her home too.

Writing under the username Sadie3586478 in a post upvoted over 22,000 times, she described the way her husband introduced her to his new coworkers during a dinner at her house as "the housewife" rather than by her first name.

She said she was quick to call him out though, laughing hysterically in front of their guests before telling him: "No honey I work full time and YES I still act like a housewife when I'm home because you simply can't bother to help."

Her husband later scolded her for her response, telling his wife she "embarrassed him" by reacting in that way and claimed she was "ruining his image" at work.

"I told him he was wrong to lie about my status and deny my degree to begin with," the woman wrote. "He said I could've talked to him about it privately later but not like this...making his coworkers think he's useless."

According to the post, the woman's husband has been giving her the cold shoulder ever since, but for many responding on social media, she should be shunning him.

PersephoneTheOG dismissed the husband as a "raging misogynist," adding that the woman "calling him out in front of his co-workers was nothing less than he deserved."

OlympiaShannon was similarly dismissive of his feelings, writing: "You made yourself look like an insecure idiot." ThePlumage agreed, commenting: "He doesn't get to embarrass his wife for social points and expect her to keep quiet about it."

Mika put it in slightly stronger terms, writing: "It's f***ing 2022, sexist pigs should get what they deserve," while geranium27 said: "Men who diminish their partners to look better at the office are gross. He only seemed to care about his embarrassment, and not yours."

Beka13, meanwhile, offered up an alternative perspective on the confrontation.

"Even if your partner is less educated or accomplished, you should still be able to talk them up," they said. "That's the person you picked as your life partner, presumably you find them to be pretty awesome and appreciate them."
