Marjorie Taylor Greene's Family Keeps Getting Harassed

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene says one of her relatives was "swatted" on Wednesday—days after she was also the target of a similar incident in which someone reported a fake emergency in an effort to draw armed officers or SWAT teams to her home.

"The dangerous swatting harassment continues, as tonight, one of my family members was swatted at their house," the Georgia Republican wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter). "I will be introducing legislation to make it much easier for law enforcement to arrest and prosecutors to prosecute these criminals."

Newsweek has contacted Greene's office for further comment via email.

Greene also took to social media on Christmas morning to say that she had been targeted by the swatting attempt at her Georgia residence.

"I was just swatted. This is like the 8th time. On Christmas with my family here," she wrote on X. "My local police are the GREATEST and shouldn't have to deal with this."

The Rome Police Department quickly verified that the call was a hoax and did not send officers to the house, according to the Associated Press.

Department spokesperson Kelly Madden said a man in New York had called the Georgia suicide hotline just before 11 a.m. on Monday and claimed that he had shot his girlfriend at Greene's home and was going to kill himself next, the AP said. The call was quickly transferred to police when suicide hotline responders recognized the congresswoman's address.

Madden told the AP the department contacted Greene's private security detail to confirm she was safe and that there was no emergency at her residence. The call was determined to be a swatting attempt, so the police response was canceled en route, Madden said.

"Her security detail had it all under control, and there actually was nothing going on," Madden said.

The department's criminal investigations division is working to identify Monday's caller and build a case, Madden said.

Greene's statement that she has been targeted in roughly eight swatting attempts is correct, Madden said. Calls in the past have claimed that dead bodies were found in the bathtub and other areas of her home.

Newsweek has contacted the Rome Police Department for further comment via email.

In August, Greene was the target of multiple swatting attempts in one week.

"When I opened the door and greeted the officers and I said, What's, what's going on?" Greene said about one of the incidents in an interview last year.

"It was their demeanor and just their, like, body language. They were tactical. They had guns drawn. They were prepared for something serious," she said.

"This is what gets people killed. There have been multiple incidences just like this one where police ended up shooting someone because they believed they were responding to a call. And that's what was happening to me," Greene said.
