Marjorie Taylor Greene Wants To 'Castrate' Salary of Transgender Official

Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene has said she wants to "castrate" the salary of transgender official, Dr. Rachel Levine.

Levine, the first openly transgender federal official confirmed by the U.S. Senate, has been the United States assistant secretary for health since 2021 and has endorsed gender-affirming care for those going through puberty, saying it has the "highest support" from President Joe Biden's administration. She has also said she supports the use of puberty blockers in some cases.

Medical guidelines in the U.S. generally do not recommend gender-affirming genital surgeries for those under the age of 18, although reversible puberty-blocking treatments are sometimes prescribed for those diagnosed with gender dysphoria.

In a speech on the House floor on Tuesday, Greene, the Republican representative for Georgia's 14th district, said she had introduced an amendment to "castrate" Levine's salary to $1, arguing that it was akin to Levine's stance on gender-affirming genital surgeries.

While repeatedly misgendering Levine and using her birth name, the congresswoman accused Levine of "grooming" young adults and called her "a mentally ill man" who is "empowering kids to mutilate and castrate themselves."

She said: "My amendment uses the Holman rule (an amendment to appropriations legislation that can reduce the salary of or fire specific federal employees) to reduce, no castrate, the salary of assistant secretary for health Richard Levine to $1, the same way he supports castrating children who suffer from gender dysphoria."

She went on to call Levine "a diversity hire" and said she was used "to push the demonic gender-affirming care agenda" and said she was "unfit" and should "never have been hired."

"It is our job to protect our children from sexual groomers like Levine and reducing his salary to $1 is a strong first step," she said.

She also criticized Levine for supporting vaccine requirements at schools for children and said she was "more concerned with woke gender and vaccine agendas than serving the everyday health needs of the American people."

"He deserves to be fired immediately," she added. "This man is a danger to all children and shouldn't be serving in our government."

Newsweek has contacted representatives for Greene and Levine by email to comment on this story.

Greene posted a video of her speech on X, formerly Twitter, where it has been viewed 255,000 times.

Greene was previously found to have violated rules once in place on X, when it was run as Twitter in 2022, after posting a Tweet that misgendered Levine and referred to her by her birth name, while suggesting that she was "pushing" children to undergo the "weenie chop" and speculating on Levine's surgical history. At the time, misgendering was banned on Twitter.
