Marjorie Taylor Greene's rant about sex toys being readily available for sale in popular department stores in the U.S. has generated an explosion of jokes and memes on social media by critics of the Georgia congresswoman.

Addressing an audience on Saturday night after being given the Richard M. Nixon Award—assigned by the New York Young Republican Club to "a citizen who exemplifies the fundamental ideals of Americanism," Greene told those gathered: "By the way, you can pick up a butt plug or a dildo at Target and CVS nowadays. I don't even know how we got here. This is the state that we're living in right now."

The statement, which was framed by Greene's bashing of trans-friendly policies in classrooms, was shared by the Twitter account PatriotTakes on Sunday and has since received more than 670,000 views.

Many critics of the Georgia congresswoman ridiculed her for bringing up the topic of the sale of sex toys, questioning how she'd even know what retailers sell them.

"Marjorie Taylor Greene (Repub., Georgia, and possessor of Kevin McCarthy's balls), has done some very in-depth research and informed her fellow Republicans: 'You can pick up a butt plug ... at Target nowadays!' Hurry, just 2 weeks to Christmas!," retired Colonel & Dept of Labor Judge Moe Davis commented on Twitter.

"I've never noticed anything like that in Target or CVS. Why did Marge go looking for it?" wrote another user.

Some jokingly asked for Greene to give specific directions, saying they couldn't find the sex toys mentioned by congresswoman at Target or CVS, while others said they were aware the retailers sold the products and praised them for it.

The Georgia congresswoman's comment on sex toys also sparked some genuine outrage on social media.

"Certainly an important issue for lawmakers to focus on, as opposed to say, anything else," wrote on Twitter writer Molly Jong-Fast.

Many condemned Greene's outrage for the sale of sex toys in popular retailers while supporting the sale of firearms and strongly opposing the introduction of new gun control legislation.

"Dildos should be more difficult to buy than guns in Marge's perfect world," wrote a Twitter user on Sunday.

In August 2022, Greene announced a bill that would make providing gender-affirming medical care for transgender children a felony, block federal funding for all gender-affirming care, ban colleges from teaching gender-affirming treatments and prevent any foreign nationals who provide the care from entering the country.

The congresswoman has argued that gender-affirming treatment for transgender people—which is overwhelmingly backed by the medical establishment, including by major mainstream organizations like the American Medical Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics—is "disgusting and appalling."
