Jimmy Kimmel took the opportunity to make a joke at Donald Trump's expense when he hosted the 96th Academy Awards on Sunday night.

The star-studded audience laughed loudly at the quip and the former president's niece also seemed to approve of the joke, as she took to social media to share her thoughts.

"It turns out there's only one loser tonight," she posted to X, formerly Twitter.

The Context

Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee in the 2024 presidential race, slammed Kimmel's hosting of the event on his Truth Social platform during the ceremony.

"Has there EVER been a WORSE HOST than Jimmy Kimmel at The Oscars. His opening was that of a less than average person trying too hard to be something which he is not, and never can be," Trump wrote. "Get rid of Kimmel and perhaps replace him with another washed up, but cheap, ABC 'talent,' George Slopanopoulos. He would make everybody on stage look bigger, stronger, and more glamorous."

He added: "Also a really bad politically correct show tonight, and for years - Disjointed, boring, and very unfair. Why don't they just give the Oscars to those that deserve them. Maybe that way their audience and TV ratings will come back from the depths. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!"

Kimmel hit back at the former president towards the end of the show, reading Donald Trump's social media criticism out loud while on stage.

"Blah, blah, blah ... Okay, now, see if you can guess which former president just posted that on TruthSocial. Anyone? No? Well, thank you, President Trump. Thank you for watching, I'm surprised you're still—isn't it past your jail time?" Kimmel quipped.

Newsweek emailed representatives for Donald and Mary Trump for comment on Monday.

People took to Mary Trump's post to also make fun of her uncle and express their joy over Kimmel's swipe at the former president.

"It's on the middle of the night here in the Netherlands, and when Jimmy made that joke I was laughing very loud....sorry (not sorry) neighbors," one person wrote.

"Agreed. He's the only true loser anywhere," said another.

"The world really does laugh at him. Trump is a loser!" someone else wrote.

"Your uncle sure knows how to insert himself into everything even if it has nothing to do with him. I loved Kimmel's response. Tick, tock Donald!" a fourth person commented.

However, others criticized Mary Trump for posting about Donald Trump, which is something she often does.

"You are being too hard on yourself. I understand it's tough your entire existence is based on President Trump. It's not too late to get your own life going," a different X user commented.
