Tuesday's Mega Millions jackpot stood at a huge $113 million, with a cash value of $91 million. But did anyone take home the top prize last night?
According to the Mega Millions website, the winning numbers were 14, 25, 26, 41 and 43 with the Mega Ball of 15 and a Megaplier of 3x. Alas, nobody managed to match all numbers, meaning that the jackpot will roll over to the next drawing on Friday.
There were also no tickets that matched all five white balls, which would have seen a $1 million payout, the second largest prize available. But there were 15 lucky people who managed to correctly match four numbers and the yellow Mega Ball, thus garnering a payout of $10,000. Three of those winners had also purchased the additional 3x Megaplier, which will see their winnings tripled to $30,000.
But with the grand prize not being claimed, the jackpot will now increase to $124 for the next drawing at 11pm E.T. on July 24.
The previous Mega Ball lottery before last night was held on Friday, July 17, with the winning numbers for that drawing being 12, 13, 21, 46, 57 with the Mega Ball being 21 and the Megaplier being 3x. No one won the jackpot in that draw either, but two tickets purchased in California and Washington respectively successfully matched all five white balls to take home the $1 million prize.
The Mega Millions jackpot was last won six weeks ago on June 9 when one lucky person from Arizona won $410 million, the 10th largest jackpot in Mega Millions history. The largest Mega Millions jackpot was on October 23, 2018, when a $1.586 billion prize was won.
What is Mega Millions?
Mega Millions is along with Power Ball one of the widest played lotteries in the country. First launched on August 31, 1996, tickets are sold in 45 states, as well as the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Draws are held every Tuesday and Friday at WSB-TV in Atlanta, Georgia. Jackpots used to always start at $40 million, but since the coronavirus pandemic this has been reduced to $20 million.
If you are a lucky winner, you will have between 90 days and one year to redeem your ticket, depending on local rules and regulations. All jackpot winners are entitled to either a cash option or an annuity option of an initial payout followed by 29 annual payments that are each five percent larger than the previous ones. All prizes are subject to income taxes.
