A surprise Suits reunion at the Golden Globes this year was absent of one key member of its cast: Meghan Markle.

Markle joined the Suits cast in 2011, five years before meeting Prince Harry, and remained with the show until her royal relationship became serious, her final episode airing during the build-up to her 2018 wedding.

On the show, the future duchess played paralegal Rachel Zane, a character whose main storyline was her developing love story with colleague Mike Ross (played by Patrick J. Adams). Some of Markle's co-stars were guests at her royal wedding in Windsor Castle, Berkshire, England.

However, she was nowhere to be seen at this year's Golden Globes, where her co-stars reunited to present the award for best drama series.

While the Duchess of Sussex did not show, the Suits reunion was enough to inspire red-carpet questions about whether Markle could be brought back to the screen.

Meghan Markle 'Suits' Comeback?

Suits cast members at the Globes were quizzed about Markle's absence and whether they would work with her again.

Former co-star Patrick J. Adams was initially told by E! News interviewer Keltie Knight about rumors that the Duchess was considering a return to acting. Adams appeared to take the bait, replying: "You heard that rumor?"

Asked whether he would act with Markle, Adams replied: "I think Megan's a fantastic actor, so we'd be lucky to have her back in the industry, sure."

Asked if he would be ready to do a spinoff, he replied: "Yeah, I'm ready. Mike and Rachel in Seattle."

Not all were quite as optimistic. One of Markle's other co-stars, Gina Torres said the cast did not have her phone number.

Torres, who played Jessica Pearson in the hit legal drama, was asked "who texted Meghan and said 'you've got to come to the Golden Globes Meghan Markle?'" Torres revealed: "We don't have her number."

Suits saw a resurgence in popularity since it was added to Netflix streaming library in the U.S. In October 2023. Deadline reported that the series creator was developing an offshoot with NBCUniversal—adding it would not be a revival or reboot—featuring "new characters in a new location," its sources said.

Markle Reacts to Netflix Success

During a red-carpet appearance at the Variety Women of Power Gala in November 2023, Meghan gave a rare interview in which she was asked about the show's enduring appeal.

The duchess described the recent uptick in popularity as "wild," and added that she had "no idea" why the show should have struck such a chord with audiences.

"It was great to work on, such a great cast and crew, we had a really fun time," she said. "I was on it for seven seasons so, quite a bit."

"It's hard to find a show you can binge-watch that many episodes of these days, so that could have something to do with it but good shows are everlasting."

Meghan Markle Returns to TV Screens

Markle did make an acting appearance of sorts in an informally shot ad for the latte company, Clevr Blends, in December 2023.

In the video, Markle can be seen throughout, playing a member of staff. Markle has been a private investor in the business since 2020, according to Fortune.

It followed Markle's signing with talent agency WME in April 2023 also led to speculation that she may yet be seeking some sort of comeback or new promotional direction; whether that involved acting was not clear. The Hollywood Reporter wrote that Archewell Productions, the media company that Markle runs with Prince Harry would also be represented by WME.

In November, Stacy Jones of marketing agency Hollywood Branded, told British daily The Times that Markle would consider a return to acting following her signing to WME.

Jones told The Times: "I think she absolutely is going to return to acting."

"With the popularity of Suits on Netflix right now there have been rumblings on whether the show could actually come back."

What Markle's Said About Acting Comeback

However, Markle has said elsewhere that she had no plans to return to acting, telling Variety in October 2022 that she was "done" with it.

"I left Suits right after the 100th episode in 2018. I didn't think I'd ever be in the entertainment industry again," she said.

"But the entire culture has changed; streamers have changed things. The ability to create zeitgeist moments like we had in the '90s—where everyone would tune in at the same time for a show or gather for one moment?—that doesn't happen anymore..."

When asked categorically if she'd ever consider a return to acting, she responded: "No. I'm done. I guess never say never, but my intention is to absolutely not."
