Meghan McCain Slams Conservatives' Support of Kanye West: 'It Is Pathetic'

Meghan McCain has branded the behavior of a number of her fellow conservatives as "pathetic" for supporting Kanye West, particularly after he was accused of making a number of antisemitic comments.

Rapper, fashion designer and one-time presidential candidate West, who has changed his name to Ye, has been embraced by a growing number of GOP supporters over the years after becoming a vocal supporter of former President Donald Trump.

Last Monday, he won all the more praise from right-wing commentators after he appeared at his Yeezy brand fashion show in Paris wearing a shirt emblazoned with the words, "White Lives Matter," a common inversion employed by white supremacists as well as general opponents of the Black Lives Matter movement.

He went on to share a flurry of since-deleted Instagram posts in reaction to the backlash he faced over comments on various matters, leading to his account being restricted. An Instagram spokesperson confirmed to NBC News that it had restricted West's account and deleted content after he was accused of sharing an antisemitic post on Friday.

West proceeded to take his thoughts to Twitter, where he wrote during another rant that he was "going death con 3 On JEWISH PEOPLE."

"The funny thing is I actually can't be Anti Semitic because black people are actually Jew also You guys have toyed with me and tried to black ball anyone whoever opposes your agenda," he added.

Twitter subsequently locked West out of that account and deleted the tweet for violating its policies.

Amid the storm, West received a "welcome back" tweet from Tesla CEO Elon Musk on Saturday as his account remained locked. On Thursday, the verified Twitter account of the House Judiciary GOP had shared a message that read: "Kanye. Elon. Trump."

Former The View panelist McCain responded to the House Judiciary GOP's tweet on Sunday, writing in a post: "Take this down now. Idiots."

Also on Sunday, the daughter of the late senator John McCain expressed her objection to support shown to West by her fellow Republicans in a post shared on Instagram.

"A reminder—antisemitic hate crimes are at their highest levels in America in decades," she wrote, alongside a screenshot of West's deleted tweet.

"Antisemitic language, rhetoric and statements have become common place in American media, politics and pop culture," she went on. "It is now normal to hear casual antisemitic comments from sitting members of congress, media hosts, pop culture figures etc.—it is a cancer and it is everywhere.

"It is an existential threat to American life and our Jewish friends and family both in our country and outside of it. I have zero tolerance for this s***. Zero."

"This is poison and yet another example why this man and his behavior are trash," she continued, taking direct aim at West. "Conservatives always claim to hate celebrity but jump and get excited like a teenage girl at a Harry Styles concert any time any of them show our side attention.

"It is pathetic, we are supposed to be anti celebrity and for the average working men and women—but I guess that went out the window years ago. This man is no icon, he has no wisdom I care to hear. Do not look the other way from this statement—it is the public hatred of Judaism and Jews and full f***ing stop there is NO place for this anywhere."

Newsweek has reached out to a representative of West for comment.

On Thursday, West spoke with Fox News' Tucker Carlson, sharing his belief that Jared Kushner's efforts in the Middle East and his facilitation of the Abraham Accords during the Trump administration were intended to make him money.

"I just think that's what they're about, is making money," West said. "I don't think that they have the ability to make anything on their own. I think they were born into money."

Back in April, McCain told Newsweek that she found it "interesting" that Musk could move to make Twitter less censored amid his proposed acquisition of the platform.

"I like Elon Musk," she said. "I think it's an interesting idea to make Twitter a less censored, you know, more free space."

Musk's potential takeover has prompted excitement among a number of conservative figures, who have claimed that there has been a bias against them when it comes to accounts that have been banned.

"I'm told that there's like a lot of shadow banning and censorship that goes on with conservatives," McCain told Newsweek. "I know people's accounts who have been suspended or canceled over things that I don't completely understand.

"Doesn't Ayatollah Khamenei still have a [Twitter account]? I think that's the question. It's just where's the line and the line continues to sort of be nebulous."
