Melania Trump's Sudden Appearance Being Used as 'Distraction': Former Aide

Former first lady Melania Trump's scheduled appearance at a naturalization ceremony is just a "distraction" from the Trump family's true "reality," said one of her former aides, Stephanie Winston Wolkoff.

It was announced on Monday that Melania Trump will speak at a naturalization ceremony that "will see 25 people from 25 nations sworn in as new U.S. citizens," according to the National Archives website. The National Archives is hosting the event as part of its annual celebration of Bill of Rights Day on December 15.

Winston Wolkoff took to X, formerly Twitter, on Wednesday to take aim at her former boss after the news broke of Melania Trump's appearance at the event. Wolkoff served as "a special government employee" to Trump early in former President Donald Trump's presidency.

"The hypocrisy of Melania Trump hosting a naturalization event at the National Archives (where Donald is under investigation) is right up there with her so-called Be Best anti-bullying platform (where Donald is Bully #1). This is a strategic move on Donald & Melania's part," Wolkoff wrote.

Wolkoff was referring to when the National Archives asked the Department of Justice (DOJ) in February 2022 to investigate Donald Trump's alleged handling of government records. The former president has pleaded not guilty to 40 charges over allegations he illegally retained sensitive materials at his Mar-a-Lago home in Florida after he left the White House in January 2021 and obstructed the federal attempt to retrieve them.

"Melania is a vessel of complicity & distraction trying to create a stark contrast from their reality," Wolkoff continued. "The Trump's [sic] 'actions' contradict their so called 'beliefs and values.

"As a mother and wife and someone who cares deeply about our democracy and American values, I know Melania Trump, and she doesn't care about US."

Newsweek reached out to Melania Trump via online form and Wolkoff via X direct message for comment.

Melania Trump, who was born in Slovenia, is the second first lady born outside the United States. Wolkoff pointed that out in a previous post on Tuesday and wrote: "But she had zero interest in highlighting that e.v.e.r."

In February 2018, Melania Trump cut ties with her aide after news broke that Wolkoff's event planning company, WIS Media Partners, received $26 million to help coordinate Trump's inauguration.

In Wolkoff's 2020 "tell-all" book titled, Melania and Me, she claimed that she resigned because she was scapegoated by the Trump administration. Wolkoff also has denied claims that she personally received $26 million.
