Michael Cohen's Dire Warning About Donald Trump's Plan for Second Term

Donald Trump's former lawyer Michael Cohen warned voters about how a second Trump term could threaten the Constitution and Americans' First Amendment rights.

Cohen issued the warning to voters during Trump's civil fraud trial this week, saying Trump stands as a potential threat to the fabric of the Constitution with his calls to rewrite the more than 200-year-old document.

"Donald made me the very first political prisoner held by this country for failing to waive a First Amendment constitutional right," Cohen, who is a key witness in the trial, said in an MSNBC interview on All In With Chris Hayes. "Let me be very clear about something: I won't be the last if in fact he gets into office."

Cohen was at one time a major Trump ally but turned against the former president after serving a sentence for helping Trump make alleged hush money payments to adult film actor Stormy Daniels before the 2016 presidential election.

Trump has previously called for the Constitution to be modified after alleging his loss in the 2020 election came down to voter fraud.

"With the revelation of MASSIVE & WIDESPREAD FRAUD & DECEPTION in working closely with Big Tech Companies, the DNC, & the Democrat Party, do you throw the Presidential Election Results of 2020 OUT and declare the RIGHTFUL WINNER, or do you have a NEW ELECTION?" Trump said in a post on his Truth Social platform last year.

"A Massive Fraud of this type and magnitude allows for the termination of all rules, regulations, and articles, even those found in the Constitution," he added. "Our great 'Founders' did not want, and would not condone, False & Fraudulent Elections!"

Cohen said he himself was one of the first victims of Trump's attack on the Constitution, and this would only continue if Trump was reinstated for a second term.

"Listen to what Donald is telling you that he's going to do. The first thing is he's going to rewrite the Constitution. He's going to strip the legislature and the judiciary of their tripartite power and confer everything to the executive branch, which is who? It's him," Cohen said.

"He will come after anyone, anyone that angered him, anyone that bothered him. 'I'm going to go for my retribution.' That's all he's saying. Don't take my word for it. Listen to what he's saying."

Newsweek reached out via email to the Trump 2024 campaign for comment.

Trump's fraud case comes as New York Attorney General Letitia James sued Trump for $250 million, accusing him of inflating his net worth by billions of dollars to secure better bank loans and reduced tax bills between 2011 and 2021.

Trump has denied all accusations, saying that prosecutors are targeting him for political purposes.

Because the lawsuit is civil, not criminal, Trump will not serve any jail time if found guilty.

Last month, New York Judge Arthur Engoron ruled that Trump, his adult sons and their businesses committed fraud and will now decide on six other accusations, including falsifying business records, insurance fraud and conspiracy claims during the trial.

"Soon enough, the Trump clown show will come to an end and accountability will be had," Cohen tweeted on X Friday morning.

Trump's oldest daughter Ivanka Trump took the stand this week as a witness during his trial. Due to the statute of limitations, Ivanka is not liable for potential involvement in the alleged family business fraud.

However, Cohen said the trio of siblings were all involved with private meetings with Trump and likely had knowledge of everything going down for the mentioned time frame.

"She is Donald's favorite," Cohen said during the interview, although he added in recent months Trump's eldest daughter has been distancing herself from her father.

"She's trying to distance herself because it's not the look she wants to portray," Cohen added.
