Michael Cohen, the one-time lawyer and "fixer" for Donald Trump, took the stand on Tuesday to testify against the former president and his adult children in the New York civil fraud trial against them.
New York Attorney General Letitia James has sued Trump and his family, including sons Donald Jr. and Eric, for $250 million, accusing them of frequently inflating Trump's own net worth and the value of his assets by billions of dollars from 2011 to 2021 to secure better deals and loans. Trump and his family have dismissed the accusations and maintained their innocence, accusing prosecutors of being politically motivated and attempting to harm Trump's 2024 presidential campaign.
New York City Judge Arthur Engoron ruled last month that Trump, his adult sons, their businesses, and executives committed fraud. Moving forward, the court will rule on six other accusations, including falsifying business records, insurance fraud, and conspiracy claims. Engoron himself will rule on the charges, as Trump's legal team did not opt for a jury trial. The result could see Trump lose some of his famous properties and be barred from doing business in New York.
Trump's oldest daughter, Ivanka Trump, was mentioned only sparingly during Cohen's testimony. She was initially named as a co-defendant when the case was first brought by James, alongside her father and brothers, but she was later dismissed by a New York appeals court, which found that she was not sufficiently associated with the Trump Organization at certain dates key to the attorney general's suit. Since then, Ivanka Trump also fought to avoid being called as a witness.

In a thread on X, the platform previously known as Twitter, covering Cohen's testimony, reporter Lisa Rubin relayed much of what was said, including the brief mentions made of Ivanka, including an accusation that she was involved in drafting a false statement the lawyer made before a Senate select committee.
"On the other hand, he admits he was complicit in lying to the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence about how many times he talked to Trump about the failed Trump Tower Moscow project," Rubin wrote. "He says he lied to protect Trump, but that many others were involved in the creation of the statement, including Ivanka, Jared, Alan Garten, and Abbe Lowell. Still, he read that statement into the record, and that was his crime, he says."
At another point, according to Messenger correspondent Adam Klasfled, Cohen said "he understood that Trump's adult children Eric, Don Jr, and Ivanka were involved in valuing properties in projects they headed." When pressed on the matter by the judge, however, Cohen could not say for certain that he witnessed any of Trump's children actually engaging in those actions.
"But pressed by the judge, Cohen acknowledges he didn't personally observe that," Klasfeld relayed in a post to X.
As noted by NBC News on Tuesday, Eric Trump has been in attendance for much of the trial, and "repeatedly shook his head in disgust during Cohen's testimony about him and his siblings."
Newsweek reached out to Ivanka Trump's office via email for comment.
