MyPillow founder Mike Lindell is reportedly holding a telethon to raise money for a new lawyer after his legal representatives recently declared he owed millions in fees.

Lindell, who became a business magnate thanks to MyPillow, a pillow filled with interlocking pieces of shredded foam, has been a loyal Donald Trump supporter and adviser for years. Lindell was also one of the main people financing the former president's attempts to overturn the results of the 2020 election.

The pillow magnate is now facing three defamation cases for spreading lies about the 2020 presidential election, saying that the process was rigged and that fraud was committed. Such claims of electoral fraud have been repeatedly rejected in court and by independent election experts. Legal processes have left Lindell on the brink of bankruptcy, leading him to say that he "lost everything, every dime."

Earlier this month, Lindell told Newsweek that he hasn't been able to pay his legal team for the past couple of months and that he could just no longer afford to.

"These lawyers were courageous," Lindell said. "They took on a case where every other lawyer in this country is afraid to take on any case against the electronic voting machines and the evil that's out there. This was a great group of attorneys... and they need to get paid; and if there's no money to pay them, they can't keep going."

Lindell's lawyers recently filed to withdraw from the three defamation cases, brought about by voting-machine manufacturers Dominion Voting Systems and Smartmatic and Eric Coomer, a former Dominion employee. Lindell's legal team said they were owed millions of dollars by the businessman, as reported by The New York Times.

On Friday, Ron Filipkowski of MeidasTouch, a liberal news company that carries the same name of a previously existing PAC, wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter: "Mike Lindell announces he is holding a telethon on Oct 28 to raise money for a new lawyer. Since he did Jimmy Kimmel's show twice, he is asking Kimmel to return the favor and host the telethon."

In a clip from Lindell's show on Lindell TV, the pillow magnate can be heard inviting Kimmel to join him on the show. "There's an invite out to Jimmy Kimmel for the telethon," he said, adding that this would take place on August 28—possibly a mistake.

Lindell has not directly confirmed whether he will be holding a telethon to raise funds for a new legal team, but he did make a plea for donations on Wednesday after saying he was running out of money.

Newsweek contacted MyPillow for comment by email on Saturday.
