Mom Puts Up 'Neighborhood Full of Karens' Sign After Noise Complaints

Raquel Davis, a mother of seven from California, has raised eyebrows in her local community by putting a sign up reading "This neighborhood is full of Karens" outside her home, after receiving noise complaints.

"Karen" emerged last year as a pejorative term for an angry, entitled or demanding woman.

Davis, who lives in west Sacramento, reached breaking point when a neighbor complained about her children and others skateboarding in front of their home on February 27. The neighbor said he could hear the children from inside his property and asked if they could watch their language, the mother told CBS13.

"I didn't know it was not OK for kids to be outside skateboarding," Davis told the news channel, adding that she had disciplined her children in front of her neighbor after his complaint.

Despite this, Davis said the neighbor still appeared upset. The police have been called on her family at least three times in the past few months, she added. After the neighbor complained on Saturday, she decided to take further action.

"They're [my children] out skateboarding and I guess I was at my final straw. My last thing. I don't know what to do so I put up the sign," Davis said.

"So now that it's with my kids and cops are being called on them, I don't really know how to resolve this when they're just skateboarding," she added.

Davis told Newsweek that a few people had complained about the "Karen" sign and some had harassed one of her sons, demanding that he take it down.

"These folks moved in and it's basically the Animal House house in the neighborhood," one neighbor, Bruce Foster, told the broadcaster. "There is like no sense of noise control."

He said the noise had been going on for a while, but added that he had not called the police about the matter.

"It's like there's a park going on here. This is a neighborhood. It's not the park. The people that live here did not move next to the park on purpose," Foster added.

"I don't know how to turn down boys skateboarding. I mean, we're outside. It's during the day," Davis said.

"That's why I came to this because I don't know what else to do. I don't know who's calling. I keep my kids in past dark. I don't know what to do."

Foster said: "They need to start recognizing that they have neighbors. That's what it's going to take. There's no other alternative. The neighbors are not going away."
