Moon Knight introduced Oscar Isaac's eponymous superhero into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) with his own Disney+ show, which ended on Wednesday, May 4.

The show has kept viewers on their toes with its intricate storyline about dual character Steven Grant and Marc Spector, two personalities played by Isaac, as he faced off against villain Arthur Harrow (Ethan Hawke) with the powers of Egyptian god of the moon, Khonshu.

While the show was originally believed to be a miniseries, some fans are certain the series will get a second season. Here is everything we know so far.

Will 'Moon Knight' Be Renewed for Season 2?

Moon Knight Episode 5 sees Isaac's Marc enter the Field of Reeds, the afterlife of the Ancient Egyptians, after his heart was weighed against a feather and was balanced.

This occurred after Steven, now in his own body, was thrown into the Duat while defending Marc from the dead during their journey through the underworld.

Certainly a dramatic conclusion for the show's penultimate episode, it is not clear yet how the story will come to an end.

Episode 5 saw Marc/Steven alternate between his time trying to balance his heart against a feather and his "real" life in a psychiatric ward in Chicago, where Hawke's Harrow is his psychiatrist and not a villain out to kill him.

The show ends on a cliffhanger, with its post-credit scene also proving that there is more to the story than is explored in the one season.

After coming back to life and fighting off Harrow, Marc/Steven binds Egyptian god Ammit's soul to his. When the superhero demands to be freed from Khonshu's will he is thrust back into the reality in which he is a patient at a psychiatric hospital.

The two realities begin to bleed into one another, and while Dr. Harrow tells Marc/Steven that they have "work" still to do together, the Marvel hero claims that he'd "rather go save the world" instead and sends himself back into the other reality.

Somehow the act works and Marc/Steven wakes up back in his London flat in the same position as when he started, shackled to his bed to avoid roaming in his sleep as a different personality.

While Marc and Steven now work in tandem, the post-credit scene reveals that he has one more personality: Jake Lockley.

Jake is now Khonshu's avatar because the Moon God believes that he doesn't need anyone else, and Marc is a much more "troubled" man than he realizes.

While the post-credit scene suggests that the show will be renewed for a second season, there is no official confirmation that Moon Knight will return at the end of the episode.

Why Fans are Convinced 'Moon Knight' Will Be Renewed for Season 2

Per Comicbook.com, ahead of the show's sixth episode Marvel tweeted that Moon Knight was about to release its "series finale," only to delete the tweet and reshare it with the wording "season finale."

This prompted some fans to believe that the show would return, and they claimed that it meant Marvel had decided Moon Knight should not just be a limited series.

One fan noticed the change and wrote on Twitter: "oh my @MarvelStudios, deleted the tweet that said 'SERIES FINALE' are changed it to 'SEASON FINALE.' Please tell me we getting a season 2!!!!! I need more Oscar Isaac, more more more!!"

Another added: "HELLO???? I JUST WOKE UP FROM A NAP TO FIND OUT THAT THERES A POSSIBILITY FOR SEASON 2 OF MOONKNIGHT???"

One user also wrote: "SEASON FINALE?! SO IT MEANS THERE'S A SEASON 2 OF MOON KNIGHT?!'?!'!."

Other Disney+ shows like WandaVision and Hawkeye have been limited series as they have a complete story and therefore won't be renewed.

WandaVision has led to the events of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and what happened in Hawkeye will likely have implications on future films and shows.

Marvel's Disney+ show Loki was originally meant to be a limited series, and was even submitted to the Emmys to be considered in that category, but it was then retracted from consideration when the show was renewed for Season 2 in its post-credit scene.

According to a report from Variety, Moon Knight is competing in the limited series category at the Emmys which suggests it won't return for a second season however, as mentioned, the show does end on a cliffhanger so this could change.

Marvel has not yet commented officially on whether Moon Knight will be renewed for a second season, or if they instead plan to bring the character back for a film or have him appear in a different franchise in the MCU.

What Show Director Mohamed Diab Has Said About 'Moon Knight' Season 2

Mohamed Diab, who directed the show and is also an executive producer, said in an interview with Deadline after the finale that he did not know yet if the show would be renewed for a second season.

Diab said: "We don't know if there's a next season. Marvel doesn't go with a conventional way, so even if they like the character and want to extend the world, it could be season 2, it could be a standalone film, or he can join another superhero's journey.

"I'm kept in the dark, just like the fans. We never discussed it being a Season 2, but one day there's going to be an expansion, but I don't know how it's going to look like."

Fellow executive producer Grant Curtis concurred with what Diab said, adding: "Where Moon Knight lands in MCU after this, I actually don't know. As a fan, I want to know, because Oscar created such an engaging, emotional performance that people want to see more of the Steven-Marc-Jake story."

Moon Knight is available to watch in full Disney+.
