No recording artist moves the internet quite like Taylor Swift.
On November 15, tickets for Swift's coming Eras Tour, billed as "a journey through the musical eras" of the 32-year-old megastar, were made available for presale, with verification codes sent out to fans the night before.
Queue the chaos.
With millions of fans pouring into virtual waiting rooms, ticket inventory was quickly wiped out, driving prices through the roof. On StubHub, a pair of tickets for Swift's May 27 concert at MetLife Stadium in the New York-New Jersey metropolitan area were listed for more than $76,000—apiece.
The overwhelming rush also caused Ticketmaster's website to crash, leaving droves of fans ticketless and at their wit's end.
"Ticketmaster is like 'we've hidden five Taylor Swift tickets in chocolate bars located across the world GOOD LUCK'" one Twitter user chided.
"If taylor swift isn't in your spotify wrapped and i see you got tickets to the eras tour, it's on site," another user added, offering a thinly veiled threat of violence.

In a screenshot of a now-deleted tweet addressed to Swift, another fan appeared to say they'd give their life for the "Midnights" singer, just for the opportunity to be present for a stop on the Eras Tour.
"I would literally take a bullet for you in a heartbeat," the screenshot reads. "I'm really upset and disappointed in how this was handled...all we want is to have easy access and affordable options."
On TikTok, one user racked up close to 240,000 likes, pleading with Swift to intervene between Ticketmaster and her loyal fanbase.
"It's shocking that Ticketmaster completely flubbed ticket sales," they wrote in a text overlay. "But to me the most shocking thing of all is the deafening silence of Taylor Swift when her fans are distraught.
"This whole ordeal makes me think of her differently," they lamented.
Due to extraordinarily high demands on ticketing systems and insufficient remaining ticket inventory to meet that demand, tomorrow's public on-sale for Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour has been cancelled.

Earlier Friday, just one day after Ticketmaster announced the general sale for Eras Tour tickets was canceled due to "extraordinarily high demands on ticketing systems and insufficient remaining ticket inventory," Swift broke her silence.
"It goes without saying that I'm extremely protective of my fans," she wrote in an Instagram story. "It's really difficult for me to trust an outside entity with these relationships and loyalties, and excruciating for me to just watch mistakes happen with no recourse.
"There are a multitude of reasons why people had such a hard time trying to get tickets and I'm trying to figure out how this situation can be improved moving forward," Swift continued. "I'm not going to make excuses for anyone because we asked them, multiple times, if they could handle this kind of demand and we were assured they could.
"To those who didn't get tickets, all I can say is that my hope is to provide more opportunities for us to all get together and sing these songs," she added.
But while Ticketmaster's most recent blunder has drawn the attention of the U.S. government, which has become skeptical over the LiveNation-owned platform's growing monopoly on ticket sales, many fans remain beside themselves.
"The Taylor Swift ticket presale is proof that the hunger games could actually happen in real life," one Twitter user proposed.
"I would like taylor swift herself to try to get tickets to her own show," another added.
"Ticketmaster freezing after waiting hours in the queue and losing my tickets for Taylor Swift is my 9/11," a third chimed in.
Newsweek has reached out to a Swift representative for comment.
