A Pennsylvania mother allegedly hid the body of her dead baby inside the wall of her bedroom, according to police.
Officers arrived at the home of Kylie Wilt, 25, and Alan Hollis, 27, both of Charleroi, on Thursday in order to assist Child Youth Services, who were looking for the child, according to KDKA.
Once there the officers searched the home and found the remains of a child had been put into a wall in the property.
According to the network, Washington County District Attorney Jason Walsh said: "We found the child was placed in a wall, inside a wall and was drywalled over from statements made by the mom [Wilt]."
Wilt told police the baby had died from sudden infant death syndrome at their other home in February and claimed not to have enough money to bury him, KDKA reported.
The baby, believed to have been six months old, was initially wrapped in blankets, placed into a crate and kept in a crate, Wilt allegedly told police.
When Wilt and Hollis moved to their new home, the mother is alleged to have told investigators that she put the crate in one of the walls of her bedroom.
"There was discoloration, different color paint, obviously looked like drywall cut out and a section was replaced in the bedroom," Walsh said, according to KDKA.
Former neighbor Robin Stasicha, who lived next to the couple until about a month ago, said she would hear the baby crying all the time.
She told KDKA: "I'm sick. It's a horrible feeling. I used to hear the baby crying all the time.
"And, all of a sudden, I didn't one day and didn't see them bringing him in and out, and didn't figure this is what happened."
Wilt, 25, was charged with concealing the death of a child and the abuse of a corpse as well as other charges, according to KDKA.
Hollis, the baby's father, is facing charges of obstructing the administration of law or other governmental functions.
Newsweek has contacted Charleroi Regional Police Department for comment.
The case comes after a North Carolina couple was arrested in October after DNA linked them to infant remains found in a trash can some three decades ago.
Nags Head Police apprehended Scott Gordon Poole, 54, and Robin Lynn Byrum, 51, for concealing the birth of a child.
The remains of an infant were found in a trash can in Nags head in April 1991, although officers could not identify the baby's gender due to decomposition.
