Mother Leads Police Investigating Child Abuse Call on High-Speed Chase, Nearly Hits Trooper

A Kentucky mother led police in a high-speed chase this week after they headed to her house to investigate a child abuse call.

A Kentucky State Police spokesperson told Newsweek that police received a call Thursday afternoon from a girl who claimed her parent, identified as 32-year-old Brittany A. Kimsey, abused her in their Graves County home.

The spokesperson said that officers were on their way to the house when troopers were informed that Kimsey left her home in a car. They located the car at an intersection, and one officer tried to pull it over, but Kimsey sped away, eventually reaching a speed of 100 mph.

"A Trooper activated his emergency equipment to attempt to stop the vehicle, but the operator disregarded the Trooper's emergency equipment and continued westbound on State Route 348, reaching speeds of approximately 100 miles per hour in a reckless manner," the police said in a statement.

Officers said she was driving recklessly as they chased her into McCracken County. At one point, Kimsey drove the car in the wrong direction on U.S. 62 and almost hit the vehicle of a trooper forced to make an evasive maneuver.

Kimsey then crashed her car, after which she received medical attention and was arrested. The pursuit lasted for around 15 minutes, according to the Kentucky State Police spokesperson.

Kimsey now faces charges of first-degree criminal abuse of a child aged 12 or younger, third-degree terroristic threatening, attempted murder of a police officer, first-degree fleeing or evading police, driving under the influence on the second offense, and multiple traffic violations, among other offenses.

The 32-year-old is being held in the McCracken County jail, while her daughter has been placed in the custody of a family member.

Earlier this month in a separate incident, a driver was jailed after he led the police on a high-speed chase in northwest Indiana that ended in the death of his 1-year-old son and girlfriend, who were with him in the car.

Also this month, police officers in Tennessee chased a man who had active warrants for his arrest. After he sped away during a traffic stop—with his mother in the car telling him to stop—the 30-year-old crashed into a tire store.

Meanwhile in Ohio in November, police chased a man who was driving a vehicle without license plates and who ended up crashing into a house.
