What Is 'My Policeman' About?

My Policeman is a romantic period drama, based on the 2012 novel of the same name by Bethan Roberts.

The heartbreaking tale follows the love story of Tom Burgess (played by Harry Styles), a gay policeman who begins a secret relationship with Patrick (David Dawson), a museum curator.

Set in 1950s Brighton, England, when homosexuality was illegal, Tom decides to marry schoolteacher, Marion (Emma Corrin), but his undeniable love and connection to Patrick cannot be stopped.

Stuck living in a world where their love is not celebrated, Tom and Patrick are attempting to hide a big secret and they risk losing everything if they are found out.

The movie flashes back and forth between the past and present-day from the perspective of an older Marion (Gina McKee) who is forced to accept the truth and fix the damage of the past.

Harry Styles, Emma Corrin and David Dawson lead the cast of My Policeman.

Grammy-winning singer Styles stars as policeman Tom Burgess, his first lead acting role to date.

In the past, Styles has starred in Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk and Olivia Wilde's Don't Worry Darling.

Corrin is best known for portraying Princess Diana in The Crown Season 4 and will star in the upcoming Netflix film, Lady Chatterley's Lover, alongside Jack O'Connell. She takes on the role of Tom's wife and Patrick's friend, Marion in My Policeman.

Marion and Tom's wedding day plays out in the trailer but as the clip progresses, the connection between Tom and Patrick is undeniable.

They are spotted kissing as Tom's voice can be heard saying: "This love is all-consuming. I pity people who don't know what it feels like to be this in love."

The trailer then takes a dark turn, with Marion accusing Patrick of destroying her marriage, the police arresting and beating a man and Tom shouting at Patrick at a dinner table.

As the trailer comes to an end, an older Marion tells Tom: "He was always in your life, in our lives."
