A neighborhood in Goldsboro, North Carolina is on edge after the dismembered body of what police believe to be a woman was found in a civilian's driveway Monday morning.

On Thursday, Goldsboro Police released a 911 call from May 24 detailing the discovery of the body.

"I just pulled up to my house," the caller told the 911 operator, "and it looks like there is a rotting corpse on my driveway. It looks like the legs are cut off. If you could send a cop now – it doesn't look good."

The caller, who WRAL identified as Rodney Daniels, said he spent the night at his girlfriend's house and came home around 9:30 a.m. when he found the body.

"Nobody should have to see that," Daniels said.

Daniels told WRAL that detectives searched his home and his car, and spent nearly eight hours collecting evidence in the area on Monday.

According to WNCN, the Goldsboro police believe the woman was killed elsewhere and the body placed in the driveway. The neighborhood, reported WRAL, is a popular cut-through for drivers and walkers because of a grocery store at the end of the block.

Officials have yet to identify the body, as they are waiting on DNA lab results. However, they confirmed the body was a white female, most likely in her 30's.

The neighbors in the area told local media they are shaken and having a hard time believing that something so horrific was found in their neighborhood.

Sharon Robinson, one of the area residents, told WNCN: "We've never had anything like that since I have been here anyway. So, it was very disturbing and heartbreaking. It was rough to just hear all the details."

On Thursday, police canvassed the area and made calls to houses along the street to speak with the neighbors, and Robinson shared that the officials were there to reassure everyone that the neighborhood was not being targeted.

Police Chief Mike West told WRAL that "this was a random act. It's unfortunate that this neighborhood was the place the body was placed."

On Tuesday, authorities gained a picture of a grey sedan they believe to be connected to the murder and are asking the locals to help identify it. WRAL also reported that the State Bureau of Investigation joined the case on Thursday.
