Hyundai is adding to its Ioniq electric vehicle family with a model of a totally new design. The 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 6 is a sedan with a nouveau Porsche-like back end, bulbous cabin, and unique front.

The new Hyundai Ioniq model is expected to compete against many of the same models that its brother, the Ioniq 5, does including the Ford Mustang Mach-E, Kia EV6 and Tesla Model 3.

Called the "Electrified Streamliner", the car's unique proportions are able to be swathed in the buyer's choice of 12 exterior colors: Gravity Gold Matte, Abyss Black Pearl, Serenity White Pearl, Curated Silver Metallic, Nocturne Gray Metallic, Nocturne Gray Matte, Transmission Blue Pearl, Biophilic Blue Pearl, Ultimate Red Metallic, Digital Green Pearl, Digital Green Matte and Byte Blue.

Hyundai has installed a 77.4-kilowatt-hour battery in the Ioniq 6. The car is expected to be rated to achieve over 610 kilometers (379) of all-electric range using the Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP) standard of measure in its most efficient format. U.S. range estimates vary in calculation and tend to be lower.

It will be offered in either a rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive (AWD) configuration. The dual-motor AWD setup can go from zero to 62 miles per hour (mph) in 5.1 seconds.

The car's Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) enables 800-volt fast charging. On a 350-kilowatt fast charger, the car can gain enough electrons to go from 10- to 80-percent charge in 18 minutes. That's one of the fastest charging times of any vehicle on the market. It can also support 400-volt charging.

Hyundai offers Ioniq 6 drivers the opportunity tune their own drive, giving them the ability to adjust steering effort, motor power, accelerator pedal sensitively, and driveline mode.

Like the Ioniq 5, the Ioniq 6 has vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality. That allows owners to run electronic devices, including appliances and laptops, using the car's battery.

Hyundai will sell the car with the buyer's choice of 18- or 20-inch wheels supporting its long wheelbase.

That wheelbase and flat floor design allows for a holistic cabin experience that is spacious and harmonious without broken lines and indents to maximize space.

The cabin can be specified in one of four schemes: Dark gray with light gray, Dark olive green with light gray, Black with pale brown and Black. Buyers can also opt for Relaxation Comfort Seats up front. Those seats are 30 percent thinner than conventional seats and allow for more passenger space.

At the center of the dashboard is a 12-inch infotainment touchscreen. A matching and connected 12-inch screen sits in front of the driver serving duty as a fully-digital instrument cluster.

Hyundai has installed 64-color dual-color ambient lighting in the model, and six pre-selected themes for the lights. Ioniq 6's Speed Sync Lighting mode changes the brightness of the lights based on the vehicle's speed.

Ioniq 6 comes with up to four USB Type-C ports and one USB Type-A. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Bluetooth are supported. Up to two Bluetooth devices can be paired at once.

An eight-speaker Bose premium sound system is available. Models with a navigation system come with Bluelink Infotainment/Map updates.

Hyundai's e-ASD technology adds spaceship-like sounds to the cabin of the car. The texture of the sound changes based on the vehicle's driving status.

Each Ioniq 6 is loaded up with advanced safety and driver assist technology including Highway Driving Assist 2, which combines adaptive cruise control with lane centering and automatic lane change technology.

The car's Smart Cruise Control function can learn a driver's driving style and adapt its own operation to match.

Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist works to avoid collisions with objects in front of the vehicle including pedestrians, cyclists and other vehicles. First alert is a warning. If there is a continued risk of collision, the technology will apply emergency braking.

Ioniq 6 SEL and Limited models get Junction Crossing, Lane-Changing Oncoming and Lane-Changing Side along with Evasive Steering Assist. This further assists with anti-collision efforts, automatically maneuvering to avoid an accident where possible.

Speed limiting, rear cross traffic alert and blind spot monitoring with collision avoidance assist, high beam assist and driver attention warning technologies are also available.

Like other Hyundai vehicles, the Ioniq 6 will be capable of being remotely parked in parallel, perpendicular and diagonal parking spaces.

The Ioniq 6 is also capable of over-the-air software updates. Maps, media software, and features are all upgradable via this technology.

Pricing for the Ioniq 6 will be announced closer to its on sale date. Production for U.S.-bound models will begin in early 2023.
