New York City Deputy Mayor for Communications Fabien Levy said on social media that Mayor Eric Adams was being briefed.

"@NYCMayor is being briefed. While we do not have any reports of major impacts at this time, we're still assessing the impact," he wrote.

New York Police Department (NYPD) Deputy Commissioner Kaz Daughtry said that officials were being informed about the earthquake, but noted that "while we do not have any reports of major impacts at this time, we're still assessing the impact."

Shortly after people felt the earthquake, many shared jokes and memes on social media.
