New York Republicans trust Governor Andrew Cuomo more than President Donald Trump to decide when the state should be reopened, according to a new poll.
The latest survey from Siena College published Monday found that 56 percent of New York Republicans put greater trust in Gov. Cuomo to make the right decision, while only 36 percent said the same of the president.
The margin between the pair was even wider among all New Yorkers, with 78 percent putting more faith Gov. Cuomo to decide on when the state should be reopened. Only 16 percent put greater faith in President Trump.
Asked if they supported or opposed the Governor's decision to extend New York coronavirus restrictions until May 15 at the earliest, a majority of all New Yorkers backed the move.

Eighty-one percent of state Republicans said they supported the extension of lockdown measures, while only 17 percent opposed it.
Gov. Cuomo's net job approval rating stood at 43 percent among all voters, while his net favorability rating came in at 56 percent.
By comparison, President Trump was found to have a net unfavorable rating of 35 percent and a net job disapproval rating of 39 percent.
In a press release, Siena College pollster Steven Greenberg said: "Mired in middling poll numbers for the last two years, Cuomo is feeling the love from New Yorkers of all stripes in year three of his third term, and his first global pandemic.
"He is viewed favorably by 90 percent of Democrats, 73 percent of independents and 53 percent of Republicans, his first time favorable with Republicans in more than six years."
He added that the contest between Gov. Cuomo and President Trump was "not even close" on the issue of who New Yorkers trusted more to make decisions on reopening the economy.
According to the new polling data, 84 percent of polled New Yorkers approved of Gov. Cuomo's handling of the novel coronavirus pandemic, and only 15 percent disapproved.
A little more than a third (34 percent) said they approved of President Trump's handling of the COVID-19 outbreak, and 65 percent told pollsters they disapproved.
Asked if they believed the federal government was doing all it could to protect the health of Americans, almost two thirds (64 percent) of New York voters said they did not believe it was doing everything possible.
However, three quarters of respondents said they felt that the New York state government was doing everything in its power to protect their health as the novel coronavirus continued to spread.
The Siena College Poll was conducted from April 19 to April 23, and surveyed 803 registered voters in New York State. Its overall margin of error stands at 3.7 points.
