The Biggest Game Changing Performances From Week 6 in the NFL

Defense ruled a day that saw the last of the undefeated teams, the Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers, fall to heavy underdogs in the New York Jets and Cleveland Browns.

While the Jets and Browns made their statements with defense, the Texans, Lions, and Dolphins leaned on their quarterbacks to overcome adversity in securing Week 6 victories.

Getting wins in the NFL is an arduous undertaking with little room for error. Here's a closer look at the performances that helped secure victory in Week 6.

Browns Defense

The 49ers entered the contest with a 15-game winning streak in regular-season games going back to last year. Quarterback Brock Purdy led an offense that scored 30 or more points in each of its previous five games this season.

Browns defensive end Myles Garrett applied pressure while Purdy was dropping back for a pass in the third quarter with the score tied at 10. MJ Emerson corralled the ball for Purdy's pick of the season. The Browns held Purdy to 125 yards and one touchdown on the day.

San Francisco only had 215 yards of offense despite taking an early 10-0 lead. Christian McCaffrey scored the 49ers touchdown but missed time in the game with an oblique injury. Wide receiver Deebo Samuel also missed playing time with an ailment.

Despite the missing players, the Browns' defense was impressive in holding the 49ers under 20 points. The Browns sacked Purdy three times and held the quarterback to completing less than 45 percent of his passing attempts.

Cleveland might have the best defense in the league, and if the team can get any consistency on offense, they could be a Super Bowl contender.

Jets Defense

Remember when all hope seemed lost for the Jets when future Hall-of-Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers suffered a season-ending injury in the first game of the season against the Buffalo Bills?

Well, the Jets' defense hasn't given up and had one of its best games against the previously undefeated Eagles.

Jets defenders picked off Jalen Hurts three times, which tied a career-high for the Eagles quarterback. The Eagles had scored at least 23 points in each of their five wins this season, but the Jets held them to 14. Philadelphia scored on two of their first three possessions but couldn't muster anything else as the game went on.

The Jets forced four turnovers, including Tony Adams' interception late in the fourth quarter with the Eagles ahead by two points. Running back Breece Hall scored the game-winning touchdown and the Jets converted a two-point conversion. The Eagles had a shot at a comeback, but the defense again stood strong, forcing a turnover on downs to seal the victory.

C.J. Stroud

Houston Texans' quarterback C.J. Stroud is having the best season of any rookie quarterback this season. His first major stumble occurred on Houston's second drive when he threw his first career interception.

Stroud had thrown an NFL rookie record 192 passes without an interception before Saints linebacker Zack Braun picked off a pass intended for tight end Dalton Schultz. Fortunately for the Texans, Braun fumbled, giving the ball back to Houston, and Stroud threw a touchdown pass on the ensuing possession.

But Stroud shook off the pick and led the Texans down the field for the score. Stroud finished the game with two touchdowns and an interception in the 20-13 victory.

Jared Goff

Is there a more underrated quarterback than Detroit Lions' quarterback Jared Goff?

The Lions defeated the Tampa Bay Bucs 20-6, with Goff throwing for 353 yards and two touchdowns. Because of injuries, Detroit was missing their two best running backs, David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs. Goff took matters into his own hands by controlling the game, completing nearly 70 percent of his 44 throws.

Goff's 45-yard touchdown pass to Jameson Williams put the game out of reach. He's thrown for 4,473 passing yards and 29 touchdowns to four interceptions in his last 17 games for the Lions, and the Lions are 13-4 in those games.

Tua Tagovailoa

Quarterback Tua Tagovalioa and the Dolphins' offense came out sluggish and managed just five yards in six plays during their first two drives. The Carolina Panthers, meanwhile, racked up a 14-0 lead in Miami.

But as the second quarter got underway, the tide turned. Tagovailoa threw three touchdown passes in the second quarter to give the Dolphins a 21-14 lead. The Fins would go on to find the end zone twice more before the Panthers could score again. Tagovalioa finished the game with 262 passing yards in Miami's 42-21 victory.
