A former judge had to be dramatically dragged out of an Ohio courtroom after she was sentenced to six months in jail.

Footage shows the former juvenile court judge Tracie Hunter being forcibly removed from Hamilton County courthouse following her sentencing for using her position to help her brother.

Hunter, a Democrat, was the first African-American elected to Hamilton County's Juvenile Court in 2010. She claims the prosecution against her was a political vendetta fueled by her winning the seat, which had been previously held by a Republican.

After she made herself go limp, Judge Patrick Dinkelacker asked officers in the court to drag her out.

Her supporters can be heard expressing their outrage.

Hunter had been convicted in 2014 of illegally passing confidential documents to her brother, Stephen Hunter, who was a youth corrections officer while he was facing a disciplinary hearing the previous year.

This stemmed from an incident in which he had allegedly struck a young offender while on the job on July 7, 2013.

Tracie Hunter was accused of demanding and receiving documents about the teenager, which she denied.

Her conviction was for "an unlawful interest in a public contract," Biz Journals.com reported and her sentence follows a number of appeals against her conviction.

Before the sentencing, Hunter said: "I violated no laws, I did not secure a public contract, I did not secure employment for my brother who worked for the court for about seven years before I was elected judge.

"They need to drop these unrighteous and I believe unlawful charges against me," Hunter told NBC affiliate WLWT in Cincinnati on Sunday.

But despite numerous public appeals not to jail Hunter, Judge Dinkelacker ordered that she do time as well as one year's probation.

After the courtroom chaos, a number of her supporters protested outside Dinkelacker's home.

They chanted: "Hey, hey, ho, ho, this racist judge has to go," and also joined in "Black lives matter" and "No, justice, no peace," among other chants, Cincinatti.com reported.

Judge Dinkelacker denies his decision was based on race.

"I have never seen anything like this, over a lot of years, a lot of cases, And there have been cases with race issues, like this one."

"I would like to have them find one person who would say Pat Dinkelacker is a racist; they won't because I was not raised that way and it's not true. It's starting to get to me," Cincinatti.com reported.
