An Ohio prosecutor was fired following a road rage incident in June where he allegedly bit a man's finger off.

Christopher Murray was fired from his job as a Greene County assistant prosecutor about a week after the June 30 altercation, which began when the victim honked at him.

The Riverside Police Department responded to a report of a "fight in progress" at around 12:30 a.m. near Route 35, according to an incident report obtained by Newsweek. Officials were advised that "there was someone in a headlock."

Another caller reported a lot of blood and "a finger was bitten off."

First responders found the victim, Charles Volpe, standing outside of his parked car. Officials said there was "a lot of blood on him and on the ground."

Police determined his finger had been bitten off and called for medical assistance.

The victim said he "laid on his horn" when the car he was stopped behind did not move when the light turned from red to green.

The driver of the car in front of the victim exited his car and walked toward the victim. The driver, later identified as Murray, allegedly asked the victim if he wanted to fight.

The victim said he opened his car door because his windows do not work. He claimed Murray pulled the door open and "started to fight."

The victim told officials he was able to get on top of Murray at one point, which is when Murray allegedly bit his finger.

Volpe said he yelled "please help" to drivers passing by but no one stopped.

Murray dropped his cell phone before getting back in his car and driving away. Officials seized the cell phone and classified it as evidence.

The victim's middle finger was found underneath his car. Medics took the finger with Volpe to Miami Valley Hospital.

Murray has not been arrested or charged yet because the case is pending before a grand jury.

"As Greene County Prosecuting Attorney, I became aware on July 8, 2024 of an ongoing criminal investigation in Montgomery County regarding my employee Christopher Murray," Greene County Prosecuting Attorney David D. Hayes said in a statement sent to Newsweek. "Murray has been on leave since July 9, 2024 from his position as an Assistant Prosecutor in Greene County. He has not been in the office, or representing my office in Court, since July 9, 2024. After due consideration, I terminated Christopher Murray's employment with the Greene County Prosecutor's Office."

Greene County is located in southwestern Ohio and has a population of around 167,966. The incident took place in neighboring Montgomery County.
