Ohio Woman Accused of Kidnapping Her Children After Allegedly Killing Their Father Arrested

An Ohio woman accused of kidnapping her children after allegedly killing their father was arrested early Tuesday in Cleveland, police said. The two children, ages 4 and 8, were unharmed.

Police issued an Amber Alert Tuesday for 4-year-old Anijah Kelley and 8-year-old Armani Kelley after they were reportedly kidnapped by their mother, 28-year-old Arriel Bryant. The children's mother was wanted by police in connection to the shooting death of their father on Monday night.

Cleveland Police responded to reports of shots fired at a home on Alhambra Road at around 8:15 p.m. on Monday, WJW reported. At the residence, officers discovered 35-year-old Richard Kelley with multiple gunshot wounds. Kelley was pronounced dead at the scene.

Bryant and Kelley got into an argument at his home before Bryant shot Kelley several times, police said. According to a statement, both Bryant and Kelley lived at the home where the shooting occurred.

Police said Bryant then left the home in a vehicle with their two children. Authorities found the vehicle a shortly afterward in the 14200 block of Lorain Avenue but Bryant and the children were not in the car, prompting the Amber Alert.

Bryant was arrested at a relative's home Tuesday following a manhunt for her and the two children. She was taken into custody without incident by U.S. Marshals, police said.

"The children appeared to be in good health and unharmed," police said in the statement. The two children were taken to MetroHealth Medical Center as a precaution.

Court records reviewed by Newsweek show Bryant has had previous run-ins with law enforcement. On August 8, Bryant was arraigned on charges for possession of marijuana. Prosecutors dropped those charges because they were pursuing felony charges.

In 2009, Bryant was convicted of obstructing justice in an armed robbery case that resulted in the shooting of a man on Bunnell Court in Cleveland. Bryant was sentenced to one year on probation, while her then-boyfriend was sentenced to eight years in prison, according to Cleveland.com.

Bryant was charged on Tuesday with aggravated murder. It is unclear whether she has an attorney, the Associated Press reported. The investigation is ongoing.
