Overwatch 2 is finally out, and players all around the world are jumping into the game. While many have experienced long queue times, others have managed to make it past the line and jump into some matches. But now that Overwatch has gone free-to-play, quite a few things have changed, including how you unlock new heroes.

Right off the bat, Overwatch 2 increases the original game's cast by three new heroes: Sojourn, Junker Queen, and Kiriko. Players looking to unlock Kiriko will need to level up their Battle Pass, while those who wish to unlock the other two will need to overcome another––somewhat difficult at the moment––hurtle, simply logging into the game.

Any players who log in and play Overwatch 2 at launch will receive two of the game's newest heroes, Sojourn and Junker Queen, completely free of charge. This means you won't need to level up the Battle Pass or earn any kind of experience––or even buy premium currencies––to add these new characters to your roster.

Instead, all you need to do is log in and play the game at any point during its first season, which is set to run until December sometime. And even then, the length of the season may be extended due to the ongoing DDoS attacks that Overwatch 2 has been experiencing.

Blizzard also has plans to add even more heroes to the fray in future seasons of Overwatch 2, starting with a new tank hero in Season Two. The company hasn't shared exactly how it plans to handle the release of these new heroes, but the new tank will likely be locked behind leveling up the Battle Pass or purchasing the Premium Battle Pass to unlock it immediately.

Both Sojourn and Junker Queen offer new ways for players to experience the team-based action in Overwatch 2, and as such, players will want to try them out early on, especially if they fit into your normal set of classes.

Sojourn is a new Damage Class hero, whereas Junker Queen is a new tank. These two character help fulfill two of the most important classes found in the game, while Kiriko (the new hero unlocked through the Battle Pass) is a healer that can help keep your team in the fight.

Once you have unlocked Sojourn and Junker Queen, you'll be able to try them both out in Overwatch 2's Practice Mode to get used to their abilities, controls, and movements. Unfortunately, Blizzard has not shared how you'll need to unlock these heroes if you miss the window to unlock them in Season One.
