Paris 2024 Olympics Logo Mocked for Resembling Dating App

The official Olympics logo for the 2024 games in France is being mocked online, with people comparing it to everything from a dating app to Rachel from Friends.

While the logo was originally unveiled in 2019, it seems interest has been reignited as the 2020 Tokyo Games gets underway, a year late due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Numerous people have taken to social media this week to draw comparisons with the logo, named Marianne, and a number of celebrities. The gold logo resembles a face, with the outline of a short, choppy haircut and mouth in color, against a white background.

Introducing the logo, the official Twitter account posted: "The medal, the flame, Marianne. Here is the new face of the Olympic and Paralympic Games of #Paris2024."

The clip showing the Olympic and Paralympic variations has been viewed 2.3 million times, and also drew criticism at the time. A dating app logo has been a common theme among critics, while debate raged over whether the style was inspired by the 20s, or the "Karen" haircut.

Tony Gomez joked: "The Paris 2024 Olympics emblem has the eternal spirit of Carly Rae Jepsen."

"Swiping left on this Olympics logo #Paris2024," James Fenton commented.

Sarah Barnitt replied: "The #Paris2024 logo just messaged me on Facebook to try and recruit me for her pyramid scheme. Boss babe."

Sharing a photo of the former Spice Girl, Felipe Vieira wrote: "Of course you're all wrong! Paris 2024 logo is based on Victoria Beckham in 2007."

Chad Phillips-Hart, PhD, mused: "Is it just me, or is this a subtle tribute to the roaring 20s fierce hair? #Paris2024."

While a gamer, Rachel, tweeted: "I can't believe the Olympic Committee have confirmed that the Paris 2024 logo is heavily inspired by Penelope Redd. The Nintendo DS Sims 2 fandom keeps winning!!"

Some compared the style to the "Karen" haircut, a name and meme which has become synonymous with a woman often demanding to speak with management, often complaining about a situation.

Felipe Aka Philip Aka Filipi asked: "U telling me that #Paris2024 logo is the #Karen haircut?!"

While Kyle M Gibbons quipped: "I'd like to speak to the manager about this design! #Paris2024 #Karen."

While most countries alter their logo from the one presented with their bid, it seems there's been an outpouring of support for the original French design. The colorful image resembled the Parisian landmark, the Eiffel Tower, while also spelling out "24," the year of the games.

Utkarsh Verma tweeted: "Am I the only one who liked the bidding logos of #Tokyo2020 and #Paris2024 more than their final ones?"

While Pierre Stempin pointed out: "The Paris bid logo is not just an Eiffel tower, it's also a 2 and a 4 (for 2024). That's why I found it really clever (and I like so much its color gradients)."

And Chris Williams added: "Feels like a good time to remind the timeline that Paris 2024 had literally the perfect logo that represented the number 24 and the Eiffel Tower, and then bombed it off for a logo that looks like a dating app for middle-aged women who yell at baristas."

So far the next four host cities for the Olympics have been decided, with Beijing and Milan hosting the winter games in 2022 and 2026, while Paris and Los Angeles will host the summer games in 2024 and 2028.
