Peacemaker is one of the biggest shows in the world right now, and the cast has told Newsweek that the finale will be even better than what fans have experienced so far.

Episode 7 of the HBO Max show, which stars John Cena as its eponymous supervillain, featured several shocking moments, including the deaths of team leader Clemson Murn (Chukwudi Iwuji) and Robert Patrick's White Dragon.

A horde of alien Butterflies are also vying to kill Peacemaker, but after realizing where the villain and his team are planning to go they decide to change tactics: move and protect their "cow" at all costs.

The penultimate episode ended with said "cow" being revealed to the audience, showing the food source is a giant alien creature being milked by the Butterflies for all its worth.

When asked about the finale, and what fans could expect, members of the cast were very careful to avoid giving away any spoilers with Patrick simply claiming the show "gets better" with the last episode.

Steve Agee, who portrays John Economos, was even more enthused by what was to come in the finale as he said: "Episode 8 will blow your mind."

While the team will no doubt be focused on the Butterfly threat and destroying their food source, one aspect of the show that remains to be seen is how Peacemaker's relationship with Emilia Harcourt (Jennifer Holland) could develop.

It's no secret that the supervillain is interested in his fellow team member given he's propositioned her more than once, but Harcourt doesn't see him in the same way even if she has started to warm up to him as a person.

Cena remarked that it was "interesting" to even think that his character was capable of romantic feelings, given the fact that he is so closed off as a person.

"Here's what I find interesting about Peacemaker: I don't know if Peacemaker likes Peacemaker. Therefore, I'm not sure he can connect with anyone else, or like anyone else," Cena said.

"His best friend is an eagle. He has no relationship with his father, he pushes someone who eagerly wants to be his best friend away from him in a moment's notice.

"I think all of those narrative possibilities are interesting, but we have to look at Peacemaker in the fact that he doesn't like himself.

"As long as he's in the state that he's in, he may try to be intimate with anything that moves, that's open about Peacemaker, but I don't know if he's ready at all to have a relationship like that, because he certainly doesn't have it with anyone or anything else."

Holland appeared more interested in the possibility of her character having a romance with Peacemaker, as she teased: "Beyond whatever happens with their relationship on these eight episodes that we have, I just would say that I would be lucky, I would be the luckiest person alive, to get to explore that further."

Showrunner and creator James Gunn, meanwhile, spoke of the prospect of future seasons of the show, and he admitted to Newsweek that he was keen to make a second season.

"We're definitely interested, we definitely want to do it. You know, it's just HBO Max will have to pull that trigger," Gunn explained.

"But I think that yeah, we would definitely love to do that and we're working on some other things too, within the same sort of universe that are not TV shows, but other things."

The prospect that the show will be renewed for a second season seems likely given Peacemaker is the most "in-demand" show in the world, according to reports from Business Insider.

The Peacemaker finale airs on HBO Max at 3:01 a.m. EST/0:01 a.m. PST on Thursday, February 17.
