Newsweek has contacted the Allegheny County Police Department as well as the Homestead Police Department for comment.
This comes less than two weeks after police launched a homicide investigation after an Uber driver's dead body was discovered in a different municipality in Allegheny County in Pennsylvania.
On February 15, Newsweek reported that the Monroeville Police Department was investigating the discovery of Christina Spicuzza's body.
Spicuzza was initially reported as missing after failing to return home after a night of taking Uber fares.
The police said Spicuzza's body was found in the 500 block of Rosecrest Drive with a gunshot wound.
An Uber spokesperson told Newsweek they were assisting police in the investigation.
"Our thoughts are with Christi's family and friends during this difficult time. Uber's 24/7 public safety team has been assisting police in the investigation," a spokesperson said.
Uber's website also outlines steps the company has committed to in order to ensure each driver safety and comfort, including an emergency assistance button that allows drivers to call authorities to get help if necessary, and an app designed to show location and trip details from start to finish.
On February 17, police issued a press release noting that detectives had made an arrest in connection with Spicuzza's death.
"Detectives determined that Calvin Crew, age 22, of Penn Hills was responsible for the homicide," police said in the press release.
"Detectives obtained a warrant for Crew's arrest, and he was taken into custody in Penn Hills just before 7:00 p.m. on February 17, 2022."
Crew was charged with criminal homicide, robbery and tampering with evidence.
