Footage of a dog stealing the spotlight in a dance routine video has gone viral on TikTok, where it received 8 million views at the time of writing.

The video shared by TikToker @fathermila begins with a woman with her back to the camera, seemingly getting into a dance position. Just before the woman stretches her head and torso backward, a dog suddenly spins into the foreground. Going in circles, the dog appeared to be furiously chasing its tail before being spotted by the woman as the clip ends.

While the dog in the latest video appeared to be excited by the rhythmic tune, studies have shown music can also have a calming effect on dogs.

A March 2017 study in the peer-reviewed journal Physiology & Behavior found that the heart rate variability (HRV) of kennelled dogs was "significantly higher, indicative of decreased stress," when dogs were played soft rock and reggae music, while "a lesser effect" was observed when Motown, pop and classical genres were played.

The study said: "Classical music has been shown to reduce stress in kennelled dogs," while regardless of the music genre, "dogs were found to spend significantly more time lying and significantly less time standing when music was played."

A January 2020 study in the peer-reviewed journal Animals found that "animals appear less stressed or anxious when exposed to classical music than to control conditions."

The study concluded that classical music "offers potentially considerable benefits in terms of animal behavior, health, and welfare."

Several users on TikTok were amused by the dog's photobombing and "hurricane" and "tornado" style moves in the latest viral video.

In a comment that got 66,500 likes, user Dirt wrote: "HURRICANE,,,,, KATRINA," while user Shifty [UFO and red heart emojis] wrote: "HELICOPTER HELICOPTER," in a comment that got 56,300 likes.

User daryabanas wrote: "EVERYONE WATCH OUT THERE HAS BEEN AN UPDATE ON THE WEATHER AND ITS A PUPPY TORNADO!!!"
