Piers Morgan has enraged Friends fans on social media after he branded the sitcom "overrated" amid its reunion.
Jennifer Aniston (Rachel Green), Courteney Cox (Monica Geller), David Schwimmer (Ross Geller), Lisa Kudrow (Phoebe Buffay), Matthew Perry (Chandler Bing) and Matt LeBlanc (Joey Tribbiani) returned to screens for a one-off special in Friends: The Reunion on Thursday.
The sitcom, which followed six friends-turned-family as they navigate life in New York, first aired in 1994 and saw an epic 10-year run that earned the show classic status and propelled the stars to fame.
The show was a hit with fans around the world, including Morgan's son Spencer, who tweeted about it on the day of the reunion.
He tweeted: "Reminder that no one cares that you think you're too clever to like Friends. Have a day off #FriendsReunion."
Clearly unimpressed, the broadcast journalist quoted his son's tweet, responding: "Friends isn't funny. Never has been, never will be. Most overrated show in TV history."
The tweet received hundreds of responses from unimpressed fans of the show.
Quoting the show's theme tune, user @MiddleMan_ mocked: "Come on Piers.. It's like you're always stuck in second gear. And it hasn't been your day, your week, your month, or even your year."
@dj_potter replied: "You can guarantee that if something is trending/current you'll come out and oppose it. Boring. #givemeattention Millions of people love it & find it funny, all about opinions, o respect anyones when they express it as an opinion, not a 'fact.'"

Another user even said they no longer like the television personality on the back of the tweet.
"I liked you until now. It's like your intent on losing followers," @DaleDav56501976 wrote.
@Ckh_Modest added: "Oooof - all of the many, many reasons to unfollow you over the years, this has done it. The least controversial, but the most telling when it comes to good taste and spirit. Goodbye and all the best Gooner."
User @RyanMathieson93 shared a clip of Dwayne Johnson as The Rock shouting: "Shut up b****."
Morgan's comments come after fans around the world shared their immense approval for the HBO Max special online.
The unscripted episode saw the actors speak candidly about their experiences and memories from the show, share behind-the-scenes secrets and walk onto the famous set for the first time in 17 years.
One of the most shocking revelations to come from Friends: The Reunion was made by on-screen couple Aniston and Schwimmer.
The pair sent fans into a frenzy when they admitted they both had a "huge crush" on each other whilst filming the show.
"The first season I had a major crush on Jen," Schwimmer said: "And I think we both, at some point, were crushing hard on each other but it was like two ships passing because one of us was always in a relationship and we never crossed that boundary. We respected that."
Aniston added that the actors instead channeled their adoration for each other into their characters.
Friends: The Reunion is available to stream now on HBO Max.
